"An Exercise in Manipulation"
Wow! This may be the single most believable Ranma/Ukyo matchup I've
ever
seen, and expertly told in less than 400 lines. If I had a hat, it
would
be off to you.
And Nabby, you were wrong, and you know it. Mind you, not any wronger
than all the countless other people who've interfered in Ranma and
Akane's lives... just better at it.
Actually, I think she was right. Other than Ranma, Ukyo has to choose
>from either a boy who thinks he's a girl, or a boy who thinks he's a
mailbox, as they are the only ones in love with her.
So she should find someone else! She's sixteen. If she gets
over Ranma and actually looks for somone else she has plenty of time to
find someone. There is nothing requiring people to marry someone they
knew when they were sixteen after all.
Besides as Nabiki observed it was a relationship where Ukyo knew
that she didn't and would likely never hold the center of Ranma's heart.
Ranma was content, but never much more than content. And of course
Akane was devistated and never tried to love anything except martial
arts.
Ultimately it's not a question of weather or not she did
something beneficial to the parties concerned, it's a question of weather
or not she was justified deciding the course Ranma and Akane's future
should take and then acting to force them to take that course. And I
would definately say that everything she said was a rationalisation and
she really did it because she decided she didn't want to deal with Ranma
as an In-Law, and because being able to pull off the manipulation gave
her a satisfying feeling of power.
Akane, on the other hand, has:
Ryoga, who, while my least favorite male character, is still a helluva
guy. Kuno, who's rich, if slightly deranged. Shinnosuke, who may have
a memory like a sieve but is still a nice guy. Those three are
unnattached and in love with her.
Like all the guy's at school. And the simple fact is that she
isn't interested in them and never became so. Besides as I said there is
no reason why she has to marry someone she knows when she's sixteen. Oh
and this is set after the final story which means Akane wouldn't try to
steal Ryouga from Akari.
