Taboo #1: Ranma is Weak!
Okay, I think we can all agree that Ranma is amazingly fast, as
Ryoga is amazingly strong. But sometimes Ranma is made out to be just a
little too weak. I think Ranma is only just below Ryoga's strength level
and not just above your average, or even strong person. I know that
Ryoga has had the breaking point training and can withstand many of
Ranma's punches, but my thoughts on it are this; the breaking point
training made Ryoga mostly tougher and gave him more endurance. That
while Ranma's punches are incredibly strong, Ryoga's training made so
they don't hurt as much as they should, but hurt just the same. Please
give me your thoughts on this matter either on the list to help others
with ideas, or privately to tell me how much of a dumbass I am ^ , ^.
Before this threat incurs the wrath of omnipontent on the list Tybalt I shall have to say
my peace on this one.
This is the exact thing I find wrong with Ranma fanfiction. Most, not all mind you, but
most seem to think that Ranma is some super god type martial artist that can take on
Ryouga, Mousse, Tarou, Kuno, Herb, Saffron, Kirin, Toma, and the various others all at the
same time, kicking their ass, and not break a sweat. Don't get me wrong, he is good, but
hell we even had an argument over his powerlevels awhile back if there were (and there
are, don't know how, but there are) a DBZ/Ranma crossover. C'mon! That's taking it a
little to the extreme considering some of these guys blow up worlds for shits and
giggles. Anyway back on topic. From what I can tell Ryouga has increadible strength and
endurance, always has. The training for the Breaking point only increased that to an
increadible degree. Yet all that seems to be ignored in any type of fanfiction.
Sure...Ranma is fast, and I agree he is strong, I don't believe nearly as strong as Ryouga
(the guy pulls telephone poles out of the ground and uses them for base ball bats, he
splits boulders with a punch not using the Breaking point, he picks up hundreds of pound
boulders in each arm for crying out loud!) and I agree Ranma is fast (not as fast as
Kenshiro of the North Star or Vegita of DBZ for example, but fast enough). And yes his
punches do still hurt Ryouga; HOWEVER every time I see Ryouga fight he shows increadible
skill and strength, and yet everytime he (or anyone else for that matter) fights Ranma
their skill is deliberately lowered (they fight like...well they don't fight) by either
the Fanfic writer or even (I'll say it despite the flames I'll get) Takahashi herself, to
enable Ranma to have an easy win. Not to mention it seems only he improves throughout
this...Mousse is a comic relief only, and Ryouga while he sort of, kind of improves, you
never really see him improve outside of what he does with Ranma. You see what I'm
saying? Yes, Ranma is good, I'd say one of the best in the world, but c'mon! Don't make
him out to be some kind of super god martial artist who is the only one who gets better,
and the other characters only get better because they are around him. Neither is true, or
you just have a repeat of pretty much all the stuff in the manga.
That's all now.
