As much as I like searching the web for new authors and new fanfiction web
pages, I often avoid going to pages in Geocities. Why? Because my computer
is ancient, and the pop-up advertisements at geocities slow my processor

opening when it already takes me three times as long as it should to get to
a good story.

Turn off Javascript when you go to Geocities.

Javascript has nothing to do with it. I use Opera which doesn't even *use* Javascript and
those popups still come up. Mind you, with Opera it takes me about 3 seconds to click and
close the Pop-ups, but they're still annoying, especially on sites that have them pop up
on every page. And what's worse is that they pop up again, when you go *back* to a page.
:(

And that thing about Geocities banners is disgraceful. They're saying "If you give us
free ad space on your webpage, we won't bombard your viewers with pop-ups." What the heck
do they need free adspace about Geocities *on* Geocities for?! Whoever's reading about it
is already *at* Geocities. I mean isn't that like printing "Drink Coca Cola on the
inside of the label so that once you've drunk enough, the ad appears?
