Seeing that somehow, Viz and whoever, were all in on that JAILED thing a
while back for free fan subs, they'll be all over everyone for a sponsored
competition that they haven't agreed to go with!

Whoa. Just a minute here.

Just what are your sponsors getting out of this? If they're using our
fanfics (in a roundabout way) to promote their products or somesuch,
then it seems to me that they're on very shaky legal grounds. Isn't that
just like using characters that are owned by someone else in your
advertising without permission or payment? And if we participate in the
contest, isn't that like accepting money for fanfiction, and might that
not cause the companies that own the characters to strike back at us?

Yes, it's big bad corporate entity making us sell out on
our principles and whatnot, but there it is.

Correction -- trying to make us. I, for one, am not going near this
contest unless they can show me that they have permission from
Shogakukan to do what they're doing... and I urge everyone else to do
the same.
