No, they mean the sponsor for their fanfic site, not the contest itself.

Has anyone considered the following:

If the site sponsor checks that site (which sponsors may do to ensure that people 
aren't teaching "How To Build And A-Bomb"   and/or other terrorist instruction books), 
and finds these fics, they may report them to the companies who create the original anime 
and delete the site without warning.
