Notes are at the bottom, and, as always, C&C, MSTs, flames, etc. are
appreciated. Since I wrote this at 1 am, I apologize ahead of time for
spelling and grammar mistakes... I would run it through a checker.. but I'm
too tired to make sense of anything right now... z_z

"They all had the potential to be great leaders, all had the power...
But each had one flaw. Jealously, rage, greed, even love dominated their
minds, their hearts... prevented them from seeing how to properly handle
things.

"My mother, Beryl, was the worst of them all... She was blinded by her
love of the Earth prince, her hatred towards the Moon princess... And she
stole the four kings to hurt Endymion, she took men as her most trusted
warriors that had once been good... That goodness cannot be quelled so easily.
Thus each of them failed in their quest to gain energy...

"Jadeite, first warrior, defeated over and over by the Sailor Senshi,
then destroyed by the Queen he sought protection from...

"Nephrite, second warrior to fall, done in by the consuming flame of
desire... for a human girl.

"Zoisite, vainglorious third, he could not see past his arrogance...
which was his undoing.

"And finally, Malachite, already weakened by the death of his love,
failed to stop the Senshi from reaching Metallia...

"Ah, but I am different... I know my strengths and weaknesses. My army
is composed solely of the strongest soldiers money can buy... both male and
female, both human and youma. And once I have resurrected my past ancestor's
energies... Nothing will be able to stand in our way. Nothing. Isn't that
right, Malinde?

      "Isn't that right?"

                     A Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon Fanfic...

                              Through the Other's Eyes...
                                          prologue
                       -------------------------------------------------------

The sun is just beginning its descent to its home beyond the clouds...
Ah, what a beautiful sight... the oranges and reds slowly darkening, the color
of the ocean tinging the sky. I can smell it on the air; the leftover heat,
the coming rain. It is even more rich than I remember it...

Lucite, if you could see me now... Your prize youma sniffing the air
like a dog finding a new scent. You would scoff, call me a fool to be
reminiscing about my days on Earth... But not even you realize who I was back
then. And I will never tell you, for this is my punishment... to live as one
of your servants, following your every order. There are times... times when I
look back and wonder what it was that I did that was so bad for me to deserve
this...

Mm... there it is. The final suppression of light... there is only
darkness now. I can see the stars here, bright, cheerful little things...
Perhaps the old tales are true, about the beautiful people, the people who
only did good living their next lives as stars, to be able to shine down their
light on the people they have loved...

And that one, the brightest one, would be Serenity...

There was a sound of rustling behind me, breaking my concentration. I
shivered a little, feeling exposed. Lucite had sent one of his messengers... I
always wondered if he sent them to spy on me.

      "Lady Malinde? We must go..."

It was a human man, a rather large and clumsy fellow, that much I could
see with my eyes... It still amazes me how much better I am able to see in the
dark. Perhaps it's because I am a creature of darkness...

"Has Lucite sent his instructions? I won't go into this blind... Even I
have a sense of self-preservation." I smiled thinly, and wondered just how
ghastly the tales being told about me were... He looked at me as if I were a
spirit.

"There is no need to be frightened..." I turned away, my eyes once again
resting on the spot the sun went down with some sorrow. How many times would
my eyes be able to watch such natural beauty...

"O-of course, Lady Malinde." The man swallowed audibly, and rustled
around in his sidepack. "The Lordship says to just touch it..."

I reached out my arm, fingers closing around a perfectly round gem. My
eyes slowly closed as the energy seeped through my arm, through my body, until
I could hear my master's words clearly in my mind.

:Malinde... do not be discouraged. I believe in, and respect your
strength and wisdom. Your ability to get those around you to trust you is
especially useful... and therefore, I feel no regret in sending you to the
headquarters of the enemy... Know that if you fail, I, and all those under my
jurisdiction will mourn your loss...

A small, bitter laugh escaped my lips, and tears burned the back of my
eyes. <Yes, Lucite... you will mourn my loss by finding my replacement as
quickly as possible...>

:The villains known as the Sailor Senshi are powerful when united, but
when broken apart... The old Earth saying 'Divide and Conquer' works well
here...:

His recorded laughter still sent tingles down my spine, and I dug my
fingernails into the palms of my hands to shut out the dreaded feelings...

:You know their faces, you know their lives, you know their names...
become a sister to them, and they will fall one by one... The Time Mistress
will be first, the Moon Princess last... Do you understand? Yes, of course you
do... Take care, Masanao Mine...:

The power retreated back into the now lifeless rock, and I pondered his
words as I stared across the vast landscape.

"I am Masanao Mine... age 16...

Masanao Mine..." Images of a life I had never lead flashed through my
mind, fragments of memories: a mother with long golden hair, and a rich laugh;
a father with silver-rimmed glasses and warm brown eyes; a far away home...

I thrust the rock away, my fingers trailing off the edges as it flew
towards the sea, taking my old life with it. I heard it shatter on the pointed
edge of an outcropping before raining on the sand, like a waterfall of glass.

"I am Masanao Mine... and I will kill the Sailor Senshi." I said it
firmly, without regret, but with a tinge of sadness. I would kill the daughter
of Serenity... under her own light...

I wrenched my eyes away then, and followed the human into the abyss...

Notes:

Basically, I wrote this in about 15 minutes while listening to my 'Key, The
Metal Idol' soundtrack... I've been having trouble rewriting certain portions
of my other 'fics, and decided to try something new... (yes, I do realize it's
still Sailormoon.. ::looks sheepish::) If anyone thinks this looks decent
enough for me to consider continuing (likewise if you think I should
definitely NOT continue) drop me a note... I'm a bit rusty with first-person
writing (hm.. did I mix up the tenses?) but I think I can get the hang of
it... ^_^ Oh, and should I change the title? It bugs me.. *shrug*

Oh, yes, and a BIG Thank You to all the people who consented to be my pre-
readers for my other 'fics... (Arigato! I'll send you each a private note when
I get some time.. ^_^;)

Oh, and the disclaimer:
Sailormoon is copyright of Takeuchi Naoko-sama, and Kodansya, and all those
other nice people. Thanks for not sueing me. (^.^) Some characters are mine,
please don't use them without my permission, etc. :)

Thanks for reading ^_^
