In a message dated 98-09-03 04:06:10 EDT, you write:

<< Actually the point was, "Ranma's opponents won't be worth bothering
with". If you want to upgun the opposition, first you'd have to come up
with a plausible reason why the same single change doesn't just give
Ranma more power but also attracts more poweful opposition. For
example, just because because Ranma turns into a saber toothed tiger
with the power of the Cat Fist, is no reason in itself why he should
attract godlike opponents from another universe. >>
he wouldn't. "Cat Scratch" is comedy. Anything Raoh is in, will be DARK. it
may be possible to have a comedy series with Raoh in it, but i can't see how.
what Ranma/tiger WOULD attract is attention, the moment a photo of his cursed
form appeared. (Note that he doesn't particularly mind this cursed form
either, similar to the amount of time Genma spends as a panda.) And attention
brings all sorts of problems. Big game hunters, conservationists ("save the
sabre tooths"), wildlife park managers, etc, etc. He will ALSO attract more
powerful opponents, simply by being a stronger fighter as occurred within this
and every other martial arts series. The main character ALWAYS learns and
powers up and ALWAYS gets more powerful enemies/opponents. It's a genre rule.

 <<With cyborg immortal
Ranma he has had more time and space to make more powerful enemies...but
given that he now has trouble leaving his opponents alive...won't they
be dead? Even then, there's more than enough creeping escalation in the
original Ranma storyline without souping it up yet further. >>
as for "King Of Fighters" notice that Ranma doesn't LIKE to kill. Is he
capable of doing so, yes. Is he able to deal with it, yes-to an extent. As was
suggested within the storyline his having killed during a fight still gives
him MAJOR angst fests. Does he still have living enemies, you betcha. Does he
still have living friends, a few. Rivals, damn straight. He's also not
immortal. Consider for a moment the technology we have now. Compare it to one
thousand years ago. Take the same difference, apply it to our time frame. Got
it? Now multiply THAT by a dozen. If you check out the section with C'ath -
she died ONCE as a war correspondent. This is to indicate to you, the reader,
that dying isn't uncommon. Dying in such a manner that you don't get revived
is a little more uncommon, and as is also mentioned with C'ath's story- you
don't come back unchanged.
Not even getting into the possibilities with such a powerful fighter having
detectable ki in the manner of a Z Warrior or MiB recruiting Ranma (& Co after
a proposed storyline within King Of Fighters where he uses a one-shot gadget
in his backpack to bring an injured romantic lead back from the grave) or the
various "gunslinger mentality" martial artists. "I hear you're a tough
fighter, eh? Let's see how tough you are..."
i've gone over all this before but i guess you've already made your mind
up...oh well
