We have been here in this strange world for almost three weeks
now. Travel has been hard. We have taken days to go only a few miles in
some cases. I have been leading our little group through these woods for
the bulk of that time. We are still being tracked by something we have
yet to see, although it is getting more cautious. That is not a good
sign. We should reach the foot hills of the mountains today, probably in
a few hours. The vegetation is getting thinner as we go, mabey it will
back off when it loses its cover. We must press on to survive we can't
risk heading back into the jungle with that thing getting ever bolder
with us. I think the only reason we haven't seen any large predators is
we smell different than the usual prey. Those mountains were much farther
that we had anticipated, we were expecting to reach them in a week at
most. Its amazing how far you can see. Every thing here is so clean, the
water, the air. It seems so unreal. Mabey I'll wake up and it will have
been some crazy dream.
Most of the time we just walked silently along on our journey, we
aren't even sure where we are headed. Its Ironic that I should lead a
party going no where. With me in the lead I doubt if we'll ever find it.
Me an Itazura seem to be getting along well, almost to well it seems. I
don't mean I think she likes me or anything. Its just that she seems to
be taking the role of follower almost to well, especially considering she
was my teacher. I feel sorry for her more than any of the others because
she had a real family back on earth. She still cries herself to sleep
sometimes. Its funny, she's the oldest one and I keep thinking, "Poor
kid." every time I see her that way. She does seem to be adjusting very
well, I've seen allot of improvement in her attitude over the past few
days.

Found a road near the mountain base.
Vic started talking again, just like his old self. God help us.
end exert.
"Jun what is it?" said Jenn as she stood at the edge of a very
large pit in the center of the road. It was easily three hundred feet
across.
"A big pothole." said Vic sneering at her.
"This was dug out." said Ryoken as he kneeled by the edge and
looked into it.
Jun nodded. "By our large friend from the jungle." he said
calmly.
"Really?" said Itazura in a small voice.
"Get off it Jun we aren't buying any. We would have seen it by
now." said Achika angrily.
"He's right." said Ryoken. "This is a crude trap and in a few
moments we are going to see our friend finally."
"What do you mean?" asked Vic with a nervous look.
"This is a perfect spot for an ambush, we are enclosed by rock
walls from both sides, the pit is in front of us and it... is behind us."
As if in answer a deafening roar came.
"He's trying to scare us into the pit." noted Phil.
"Yes, the walls are steep enough that we couldn't run up them. I
think he's pulled this stunt before, probably on caravans or large
groups.
"What makes you say that?" asked Achika as she clutched onto
Jun's arm as another roar was heard much closer. Jun pointed to the
bottom of the pit it had appeared to be littered with rocks, but now she
saw broken carriages, scattered bones.
"This is all your fault Jun you lead us into a trap. Your an
incompetent leader and I should take over." said Victor.
"Aw, boss not now." grumbled Ryoken under his breath.
In the Capitol city of the Akama controlled lands. The emperor
sat in his throne with a smile on his face. "How goes the battle?" he
asked one of the men nearby.
"The Mech and Gall are easily defeating the forces within Sambika
my lord. However reinforcements have arrived for the Joseians." said the
man nervously.
The emperor laughed and grunted in pleasure. The girl kneeling
before him sat upright suddenly and began to make choking noises. She
fell on the ground and writhed as the emperor watched unmoving. "I wish
you would go to your private quarters for that sort of thing my lord."
said Lord Aken as he entered with a small frown. "It is rather
unnerving."
"Hold your tongue." growled the emperor. "It is a pity this one,
I rather liked her. Ah well, I have many others where she came from."
"I have some interesting news from Sambika." said the lord.
"Yes?" inquired the Emperor.
"It seems a mysterious stranger with much power has saved the
princess. She will no doubt be saved from the battle." replied Aken.
"Shit." said the emperor without much malice. "Find her and kill
her with her brother. I want them both dead." the emperor smiled as yet
another young frightened girl was escorted into the throne room. She
looked in horror as the body of her successor was carried away. Aken
walked out and her screams were cut off as the doors to the throne
slammed shut.
"Sick bastard." he muttered as he walked to his room.
Jun and his group were forced into the pit as the thing rounded
the corner and appeared before them finally. "I wonder if Speildberg will
ever know how close he got." muttered Jun as he watched the huge red
Tyrannosaurus loom over them.
"Most unusual." Commented Phil casually as they made their way
down the pit.
Achika backed down with her eyes locked on the beast in fear. "My god."
she said quietly. Ryoken stood beside her with Victor cowering behind
him.
"Ryoken! I command you kill that thing at once." He cried in
terror.
It lept into the air and landed near Jenn at the bottom of the
pit. It raised its clawed foot and stomped her into the ground. "Jenn!"
cried Jun running forward. It turned and roared loudly at him and he
stopped cold. Its head snapped downwards and it lifted its foot up and
looked. It roared at the unmoving and still intact Jenn and began to
stomp on her body repeatedly. Jun watched in horror.
Ryoken was the first to react. He yelled and charged throwing his
knife at the animal hitting near one of its eyes. The Tyrannosaur roared
and turned towards him angrily. It opened its mouth and its neck
inflated. The air around its mouth began to distort and Jun gasped.
"Ryoken get out of the way!" he yelled as it released a huge
fireball at the young ninja. Ryoken jumped up barely avoiding the blast.
The Tyrannosaur roared and stumbled. Jun looked and saw two hands moving
under its feet. Jenn was still alive. He lept at the animal and backed
away as it snapped at him he punched it in the nose causing its head to
snap back about five feet before it regained control and shook the blow
off. It stepped towards Jun and roared. Jun grabbed its jaws and began to
force them open. The T-Rex lifted its head up into the air and tried to
shake him off twenty feet above the ground. Jun managed to get his feet
into its mouth and shoved up hard breaking its Jaw and causing it to roar
in his face in pain. Jun's ears rang, and his face was burned from the
heat of its breath. He reached back and punched into the roof of its
mouth. He pushed his arm in as far as it would go and the creature
stiffened. Jun released it and jumped away as it fell forward. It landed
with an anti-climactic thud and died.
Ryoken walked up to him and frowned as he sat on the ground next
to Jenn with her head in his lap. "What the hell were you thinking?! You
knew that thing was a fire breather and you jumped in its mouth??! Are
you that stupid you knew she was dead dammit." he said angrily to Jun.
"She's not dead." said Jun calmly.
Ryoken looked down and saw Jenns chest moving. Besides a large
gash on her arm and allot of bruises she looked all right. "What the?" He
said as the others finally caught up with them.
A few hours later the group sat around a fire as the sun neared
the horizon. Them men sat around and watched the meat from the Rex cook
casually. Jenn was shaken but was fine after a little rest she had
bandages on her shoulder and was sitting on a cliff looking out over the
land. Jun had cut up his hands pretty bad on the teeth of the Dinosaur
and was bandaging them up calmly as the others prepared to watch the sun
set from about half way up on of the mountains. "It appears we can be cut
quite easily." noted Phil
"We can take any impact and any idiot with a knife and a lucky
shot could kill us." said Jun.
Jenn looked at the forest below them, she sat up suddenly. "Jun
you idiot!" she screamed.
"What is it?" said Achika as she walked over to her friend.
"Look and tell me what you see." said Jenn pointing into the
forest off into the distance.
"Its that huge rock we passed two weeks ago." she said in mild
suprise. "Wow we can still see it."
"Now look over there." said Jenn pointing at the other side of
the forest directly across from the other rock.
"Its the abandoned temple pyramid we stayed at a few days later."
noted Ryoken. Everyone had been attracted over to the cliff by Jenn's
scream.
"No wonder it took three weeks to get here! We've been zig
zagging from one end of the forest to the other. Jun your stupid sense of
direction almost got us killed you jerk!" she cried smacking him on the
head angrily.
"Oops." said Jun timidly.
"I had forgotten about that." said Phil.
"Perhaps I should navigate from now on sir." said Ryoken with a
small smirk.
"Shut up you guys it isn't my fault ya know." said Jun in
embarrassment.
"It appears you are to incompetent to lead us effectively I
suggest I lead form now on." said Victor smugly.
The next day they stood on the other side of the mountain and
looked at the great desert that stretched before them. A large city with
Persian like architecture could be seen in the distance not quite on the
horizon.
"We could make it in a few days." commented Jun.
"No, at least a week if the desert permits." said Phil.
"Are you sure you want to cross a desert?" asked Ryoken.
"We can follow the river. If it stops before we reach the city we
can always come back." said Victor trying to sound smart.
"Don't count on it." said Jun. "You have no Idea how fast water
can dry up in a desert." said Jun.
"And I suppose you do?" asked Jenn.
"Went on safari with dad when I was seven, to the Sahara. You can
imagine what happened to us." he said dryly.
"You got lost." said Achika without much humor. Jun only nodded.
"That city is allot further away than it looks to us and I think
I know why." said Phil.
He quickly drew two circles in the dirt. One was allot larger
that the other. He drew two lines on the sides of both circles. "What is
the difference between these two lines?" he said to them.
A dawning came over Itazura's face. "The distance between them is
greater." she answered.
"Yes, they represent our field of vision, how far we can see to
the horizon. This planet is several times larger that the earth. There
for we can see allot farther to the horizon because it is much farther
away. That city is more than a few days away." explained Phil.
"We had better get moving." said Jenn as she looked at the sky.
"Mabey we can join a caravan or something." mused Phil.
"Off we go into yet another interesting adventure." said Ryoken
with a heavy sigh.
"Cheer up it'll be fun." said Jun as he started down the
mountain.
"Jun...This way." said Jenn turning her friend in the right
direction.

C&C to Catbert25@aol.com
This ch. Was written to the Evangalion soundtrack. I just got all
three of the CD's. It was mostly the third one though. I like the 22
track as kind of a theme to the wanderings. [Basically its and
instrumental version of the opening theme with a guitar and a piano.] It
just seemed to fit so well.
Next time I'll Check up on the battle of Sambika with Dan. A few
interesting developments occur with more than a few twist. [I hope
anyway.]
Until then Ja ne!
