Okay, I gotta say that long dialogue can get annoying and boring sometimes,
but so is a story that's mostly description, That reason nearly stopped me
from reading the entire series of Lord of the Rings.

Long dialogue is a usualy a nessesity, take your example, you're saying that
having the char' explain why they like to help out is not needed, but
without a reason the char' still seems 2D.

And without long dialogue, we can't have long explanation of things, how is
God gonna tell Ranma the true and full meaning of life if he can only say it
in one, 10 word sentence???
