And without long dialogue, we can't have long explanation of things, 
how is
God gonna tell Ranma the true and full meaning of life if he can only 
say it
in one, 10 word sentence???

[Sigh] Half of my post dealt with the issue of how to manage a character 
revelation through dialogue.

Character discovery should be a slow process. The author should reveal 
character by putting him in a situation and letting him react in his own 
way. You may then explain his reactions in the climax, and lay him bare 
for the reader (like how Lawson works it). You can just let the reader 
figure out why your character reacts the way he does, or you can explain 
everything during a climax--both variants are valid, even if the latter 
is a little lazy.
