I believe the spelling debate is one of those that we don't discuss
out of courtesy, unless glaringly wrong...

It's pretty simple.  The "ko" in mouko is not an extended vowel.  It's
not even remotely related to the whole "Ryouga/Ryoga" or "Kunou/Kuno"
debate, and so on.
