Not judging by the flood of responses my postings generate. People look
forward to what I have to say--I'm not arrogant enough to say that this
is due to any great wisdom that only I possess, it's just that I'm
perfectly honest. That and all my posts are generally aimed at some
purpose, rather than just spamming.
... (Stunned speachless.) Is your last name Kunou by any chance?
I am constructive. I never criticize without pointing out what needs
improvement and what would work better. In the case of continuation
fics, I constructively suggested that they shouldn't be written because
they are a waste of time, and that time is better spent writing better
fanfiction.
When you point things out, you generally wave your arm in the
direction of the fic. You say things like "too much filler", "weak
description", "overly flowery dialgoue", etc. I'm sure it would be of
more help to people if you went line by line or at least paragraph by
paragraph. When you do manage to do this, the comments are useful.
General statements usually aren't of much help.
As for telling people that a certain genre is useless...
Unless you can prepare an airtight argument in favor of that
POV, I suggest you back off. The author apparantly has a different
opinion than you, and telling them that what they are doing is a waste
of time is only going to piss them off. I am not telling yout that
you're wrong, even though I favor continuations. The reason I don't
is that I can't give an airtight arguemnt on why its a good thing.
The only thing I can really say about it is that there are some very
fine pieces of writing out there that happen to be continuations.
