That's right. The water was also compressed :)
And I believe the water needs to strike the head in order
to activate the change
I would say chin to upper chest area, actually. From the two examples
above, and there's also one more - the sakura mark storyline (Vol. 21)
Ranma washes his face to get off some ink but he doesn't change, but when
he sprays water onto Ryouga, he changes.
Of course, there's the time Ryouga tries to learn the Chestnut Fist and
turns into a pig because his hands get wet.
Actually The best explanation I've been able to come up with is that
you need enough water for the person being splashed to *feel* *wet*.
This explains the differences, since it depends upon the subjective
experiences of the victim. I know that if I get splashed on the head
I feel wetter than from washing my face, even though there's about the
same amount of water contact involved.
This also ties in more with my understanding of magic. Ie, it's
more concerned with feelings, emotions, and perceptions than actual
measurable reality.
