Okay, I have been reading all the comments on this topic, and it looks like
I am definitely in the minority here. No problem with that. I'm here to
learn :)

The feeling was pretty unanimous: pre-readers are a good thing right now.
But what was interesting was that almost everybody who advocated
pre-readers also said that they do so because the list itself wasn't
providing enough C&C.

WHY NOT?

Thoughts?

Because the list is too big for most people to comfortably deal with, and 
fics tend to get overlooked in the constant flood.  Even with Tybalt's 
spam-patrolling efforts.

There are fanfics that I have sitting on my hard drive -- even BGC fanfics, 
my favorite series! -- that I simply haven't had the time to read, let alone 
C&C, for weeks or months since they've been posted.  I feel rather badly 
about this, but I'm also fairly sure that my general lack of free time isn't 
unique to me alone.

As for a solution?  I don't know if there is one.  The list was designed to 
be a venue for anime fanfiction writers to show off their works.  With the 
list so large, the best we can hope for is the various pre-reader cliques 
that have developed, IMHO.  If you don't have a pre-reader list, read and 
C&C other peoples' works, and see if you can convince them to do 
likewise for yours.  There's also the Comment Patrol and FFIRC, if 
you're really stuck for comments.  (Insert gratuitous spam-advert here.)
