Umm..Could it be that Belldandy called Verthandi's bluff? Remember the
Startrek:TOS epidsode where Kirk was split into two parts and ended up
rejoining with each other when they realized they both were going
to die if they didn't? What made you think that Verthandi could survive
without Belldandy or Belldandy without Verthandi for very long?

What's that saying about staring into the abyss?
