Wait a minute, everyone. If Shampoo interrupts A&R's wedding to bring Ranma
to hear Cologne's last words, then she's not choosing between preventing
A&R's marriage and keeping Cologne company in the first place, but combining
both actions!

In principle, yes, but it's quite obviously not practical for Pu to
kidnap Ranma from the wedding. She hasn't had time to obtain any special
weapons or such, and she alone would have to out-fight not only Ranma,
but also Akane, Soun, and Genma. Ryoga might well try to stop her too,
as might Kaede, who is an unknown quantity at this point.

Not kidnap, ask.

"Cologne dying! You come say goodbye?"

"Okay, if I visit Cologne now I can still marry Akane later, if I marry
Akane now I can't still visit Cologne later. I might as well do the visit
now, just in case not saying goodbye is something I'd regret later."

Furthermore, if she did manage to kidnap Ranma, there's no guarantee
he'd stick around long enough to hear Cologne's last words, and he and
Akane could elope the next day.

Good point.

Obviously (well, it's obvious to *me, anyway), her only practical course
of action is to wait out the wedding, and hope that Great-grandmother
will last long enough for Ranma and company to make it there.

Unless A&R ask Cologne to officiate their wedding at her
deathbed and she agrees or something, but that probably wouldn't happen.

Heh. THAT would've been quite a plot twist... but you're right, it ain't
gonna happen.
