I've decided to post small 'tricks of the writing trade' every once in a 
while to help unexperienced writers polish their craft.

Canonical Characterizations 101:  Descriptions

In a nutshell--don't do it. You know how a character looks, acts and 
what is capable of, and so does the reader. 

No, I don't.

I don't know who Ryu Kumon is, or Xelgadis, or Nemesis.

I don't know the major characters of Rayearth, or Lamune N40, or the later
eps of Evangelion.

Furthermore, I don't know -any- character the way -you-, the writer, know
them. You have a different concept than I do of what makes any particular
character tick.

-Do- describe. I really -don't- like reading fics without descriptions. It
lessens my reading experience and makes the writer come off as lazy.
