Average Citizens
A Dragonball Fic
By Murmur the Fallen
Dragonball was created by Akira Toriyama, and published by I.Q. Jump.
C&C, regardless of any opinions that may or may not be in there, are welcome.
Even if this is a shortfic.

A cool breeze wafted through the forest, stirring the leaves and making a
pleasant rustling sound.
In a small house at the end of a winding dirt trail, there lived a man.
Let's call him Hiro.
He had with him, in that small house at the end of a winding dirt trail,
inside of the forest that was currently being stirred by a wind, a friend.
Let's call that friend Daisu.
No reason, really. Just convenient. Really.
The two friends were, at the moment, watching a small television on the patio,
drinking cool beers from a nearby cooler.
They were watching the greatest of all tournaments, greater even than the now-
defunct Olympics. Whatever that was.
Yes, they were watching the TenkaichiBudokai.
Currently, they were watching the reigning Jr. Tournament Champion, a girl
with the oddest of fashion sense (Kids today. Really, they all seemed to want
to dress like technicolor street punks), beat the living daylights out a
fifteen year old kempoist.
It was quite neat watching her juggle that poor boy in midair with well-time
punches and kicks.
"I'll bet that takes a lot of skill," commented Hiro, before he took a long
sip of beer.
"Yep," replied Daisu laconically.
They stared at the screen, not truly absorbed by what they were seeing. But,
then again, given the alternative, what choice did they have, really? After
all, who would want to watch nature? Unless it was on television. And had
lions and wildebeasts.
Perferably once less wildebeast than there was before they started watching.
Dinosaurs were also nice.
Hiro, after peering a bit at his bottle and shaking it, went into the cooler
and brought out two more bottles of beer. In the act of opening the bottle,
he noticed something high in the night (the Budokai taking place on another
hemisphere) sky.
"Hey, cool," commented Hiro.
"What?" asked Daisu.
"The moon."
"What about it?"
"It's back."
"Oh."
Hiro sat back down on his seat and watched the tv. This time, the Jr.
Champion was beating on a kendoist. How anyone could actually use a sword
that size was anyone's guess. Apparently the kendoist didn't know as well,
for he was soon being juggled by the now-bored girl.
"You know, I wonder why the moon keeps disappearing," mused Hiro, as he looked
away from the tv and looked towards the beautifully full moon.
"Don't know. Maybe it has something to do with aliens," said Daisu, grinning
wryly.
"Heh. Aliens. Good one," said Hiro, as he chuckled. He drank some more
beer, savoring its cool taste.
He watched the budokai some more. Finally, the Jr. Champion had successfully
defended her title, and was now being awarded a large trophy and a really big
check. For some odd reason, many of the people around her had halos floating
above their heads.
"You know, the reception is really bad out here," commented Daisu.
"Uh-huh," replied Hiro.
They watched the tv in silence, waiting for the main tournament to begin.
They watched as one contestant after another were destroyed with little effort
by a few choice fighters.
"Ooo, I never knew that a person could be kicked that far," said Hiro, awed by
the sight of man flying over the horizon in a graceful parabolic arc. His
opponent, a smug fellow with spiky hair, grinned nastily in the crowds
direction.
After a while, they noticed something quite odd. Bursts of light were
exploding on the screens as the finalists of the budokai fought one another.
"Man, not again. Everytime I watch one of these things, this happens,"
complained Daisu, as he desperatly fiddled with the television.
"Ah, leave it alone," said Hiro, as he waved his hands, annoyed.
They watched the last fights, bursts of lights and all, with little comment.
Then, an odd thing happened. Before the final fight started, an odd looking
fellow literally fell from the sky, bellowing a challenge.
The two finalists, one that smirking fellow with the widow's peak, and the
other, the defending champion, each leaped at the odd fellow. Bursts of light
soon appeared on the screen. Screams could be heard from the speakers.
Confusion reigned, and soon the screened turned snowy.
"Dammit! Just when it was getting intersting," complained Daisu. He quickly
went over to the tv, again desperatley trying to fix the problem.
"Ah, leave it alone. Just turn it off," said Hiro. Daisu, after a few more
attempts, did so.
They sat on the patio, not doing much besides drinking.
"Oh, hey, cool," cooed Daisu.
"What?" asked Hiro, desperate for something interesting.
"Look at that. Fireworks," replied Daisu, pointing at the night sky.
Brilliant beams of color, from gold to blue, streaked across the night sky,
exploding into dazzling bursts of light, or trailing off and dying.
Explosions accompanied the lights.
"So far out here? I wonder who's setting them off?" mused Hiro.
"Who cares?" asked Daisu, rhetorically.
"Yeah. Who cares?" agreed Hiro.
They watched the fireworks that zipped across the night sky, sometimes so
bright they turned the night into day, for a brief instance.
"Hey," said Daisu, "I'm all out of beer. Could you---"
And then the world exploded.
