Howdy! And welcome to Anands Tantric Fanfic Reviews. What is Tantric?
Well to put it -really- simply, Tantric is a Hindu philosophy that
states that there is a unity in life. That there is no yin without
yang, no man without woman, etc. So, what does this have to do with
reviewing fanfics? Absolutely nothing. I just liked the word. As for
why I started doing this, well, as some of you may have noticed, I
havent been writing much recently. I just. . . dont want to. Been
doing other things and the like. So, I decided if I cant join em, Id
review em!

Oh, by the way, there is no rhyme, reason, or structure to these
reviews. I may review multiple fics, or only one. I have no idea how
often Ill be posting these or for how long I plan to continue do this.
And of course, every thing in the review is just my opinion. ^_^

So! On with the first review.

A Different Viewpoint : Pt 34 by Pat Olsen
-------------------------------------------------------------

First off, Id like to say that Id give any author kudos for continuing
a fanfic for this long.  I often loose track of my works midway. ^_^;;

ADV is a Ranma fic of the ever-controversial New Character genre.
The new character, Johnathon Dwire, is a new teacher at Furinkan. (I
forget what subject he teaches.) Although not labeled as such, the
story reads a bit like a Self Insertion, which is not necessarily a bad
thing.

Anyway, Johnathon is cursed, twice over, married to Kasumi, and helps
out the Sailor Senshi every once in a while. Thats the gist of it, no
way am I going to summarize the past 33 parts of this fic. I have been
enjoying the story overall, but the last few chapters have not really
captured my interest. The quality of the writing is fine, but the story
line didnt do much for me. I was, however, quite pleased part 34.

It was not an overly complex chapter, containing only three plot points,
each one written very well. The Kuno and Ranma conversation had me
laughing pretty hard, and I liked the way Ranma finally realized how
dishonorable he had been in using Kuno.

The second part, between Nabs and Happosai, left me rather. . . angry.
Any kind of sexual assault, even in a story, leaves me in an irrational
rage. Nabs is one of my least favorite characters, but even I felt for
her during this scene. Nice bit of imagery there, Pat.

The third and final plot point concerned Gosunkugis new relationship
with Happosai. Gosunkugi is a character that I more or less ignore in
the manga and in fics, so any character development with him doesnt
really concern me. I do hope that he comes out a loser in this story
arc though, cause that seems to be his basic purpose in Ranma . Hes a
loser.

Well, good job, Pat, I liked this chapter, and looking forward to the
next. I hope the whole battle story arc doesnt take to long, but hey,
thats just me.

Jurais Debt: Part 2 by Douglas Whiddon
----------------------------------------------------

Hey Ive been waiting for this one! Any Tenchi fic that progresses the
OVA story line gets points in my book, and Jurais Debt certainly does a
good job of it. Douglas has also included a few plot points that I have
read on the Tenchi Rumors page or on the Tenchi ML and theyve
integrated quite nicely, IMO.

A short chapter with a clever cliffhanger-ish ending. The only thing I
am unsure of at this time is the relationship that is being presented
between Tsunami and Tenchi. Looking forward the next part, and the
wedding chaos that will come with it.

Nabiki: New Roles by Richard Lawson
---------------------------------------------------

Not one of Richards better or longer works, but it provided an
interesting alternative reality to the Ranma story line. As the title
suggests, Nabs is the center of the story and at first, I just thought
of her as a cross between Akane and Kasumi, but then Richards gift for
subtle characterization came through and I actually saw some depth to
Nabs, and in a 13k fic, no less! All I can say is, it would make an
interesting series and I do hope someone, if not Richard, continues it.
