Early this morning, I downloaded my mail queue for the night; 31
messages.
I read four of them.
Of the four I read, I replied to two.
Of the four I read, only one was from the FFML.
This has become a pattern of late.
I can't even remember the last time I read a fic that I'm not
prereading, other than the second chapter of Davies' latest.
Virtually everything that comes across the list, I delete unread, be
it fic or spam, with increasingly fewer exceptions. Worse, I can't
even find it within me to be excited about fanfiction anymore.
There's just not enough left to hold my interest when I have much
better ways of spending the time I don't have.
I'm leaving the FFML. Most likely, on a permanent basis.
I have a few parting words, thoughts, and requests...
-I'm still going to be writing, just not with great frequency. Don't
worry...all of my fics will eventually get finished, and provided
portions of this message don't earn me a lifeban, I'll still post
them to the FFML.
-There are a few fics which I wish to continue to read, that left to
my own devices I would likely never find on the Web or RAAC, either
from lack of time, lack of memory, or both. I'm therefore requesting
that the following authors at the very least give me a nudge via
e-mail and let me know when new material is available and point me
towards it, and at the very most send their fics my way. Hell,
consider me a prereader if that's what it takes.

There are several more, but the remainder I either know precisely
where to look, or have already contacted the authors privately.
-I'd like to say a few parting words about the whole Critic/Guy
Humping The Bridge thing...
1) I'm disappointed that people continue to feed the troll, but I
would be a hypocrite if I said I'm not guilty myself, or if I said
that I can't understand the overwhelming desire to do so.
2) He *is* a troll...he's just gotten a lot sneakier at trolling
since he first turned up. And he still doesn't know what the hell
he's talking about.
3) For those of you preaching the joys of kill filters...it's all
well and good to sit there and say that, but consider the sheer
amount of spam being generated on the list in regards to his posts.
That is a *bit* hard to ignore, killfiles or no.
And now that that's settled...
-I can still be reached at the usual addresses. I will try to update
my website more frequently to give status reports.
-Please, people, do *not* e-mail me to ask when the next part of
such-and-such fic will be out. The answer will always be a variant on
the same: WHEN IT IS. I don't timetable these things, I don't work on
a schedule, and I only know something's finished and ready to send
out when I'm looking at it on my own screen. I appreciate the
interest in my fics, but please, refrain from asking me this tired
question over and over again. Just have faith that sometime in the
near future, what you're waiting for will be written, and you can
read it if you're so inclined, and let me know what you think of it.
-I've had a few people e-mail me fics and say "Please preread this"
without bothering to ask first if I'd even be interested in
prereading. Somebody once dropped a 400KB SI Ranma fic on me without
even so much as a warning. I'm not as adamantly opposed to SIs as
GUtB, but there aren't many I'd sit through 400KB for, especially not
from authors I've never heard of. Understandably, this incident
soured me to preread requests with fics attached. If you *really*
want me to look at something you're working on, ask me first, and
maybe include a small (2k to 3k) teaser, and I'll get back to you.

but it was more fun this time last year than it is now. By shitloads.
