I will make this challenge once again. The last time I did
in regards to Kodachi, you ignored it.
Well, you told me that Kodachi was crazy because she does
things which a crazy person would do
I did not, sir. You are paraphrasing - and paraphrasing badly. Shall I
quote directly from the previous email I sent on this subject?
--not things that ONLY
a crazy person would do. I responded by pointing out that,
in that case, Ranma is gay because he does things a gay
would do.
Again,
Again? When did you challenge me the first time?
I challenge you to point to behavior in the manga that would
DIRECTLY suggest that Kodachi is crazy--walking down the street
screaming "I am the Lizard King!" or something that ONLY a
crazy person would do.
This is silly. There is not *one* act that defines sanity or insanity.
Rather, a series of actions suggests a trends. I can name many, many
actions by Kodachi that suggest a trend of mental instability.
And you're still dodging the issue - I challenged *you* to come up with
things in the manga that support a "very" sane Kodachi, and then explain
away her many instances of erratic behavior.
Also, I have yet to hear from you why an interpretation of Kodachi as
mentally unbalanced is "bizarre".
Why is Nabiki's characterization of someone interested
in money "bizarre"?
I noticed that you didn't answer this question either. Care to try, or will
you ignore it yet again?
I can quote many examples from the manga. In one story,
Nabiki buys a front-row concert ticket, and Kasumi mentions
her surprise that Nabiki spent money *at all*, even on an
"indulgence". And then, of course, when Ranma accidentally
burns said ticket, Nabiki spends an entire chapter making his
life pure hell. Doesn't sound "harmless" to me.
It's interesting you should mention that story, because she also
mentions a designer shirt she had spent a week working for. She buys
things for herself, she takes Akane's things, and she gets people to get
her things.
And yes, Nabiki is harmless; she is interested in an easy, material
life, and NOT in hurting other people. Ranma suffered because he
tried to fight Nabiki.
You're misremembering the story. Ranma did not try to fight Nabiki; Nabiki
deliberately did things, a series of actions that left Ranma a mental wreck.
It was done with malice aforethought. He was harmed. Not physically - not
*much* - but emotionally.
And this is just one of many examples. Other people, in responding to this
thread, have pointed out other examples of Nabiki acting harmfully or being
obsessed with money. Can you explain those away?
In short, you have yet to provide reasons for *why* my interpretations of
Nabiki and Kodachi are *bizarre*. I don't mind if your interpretations are
different - as I've said, there's lots of room for different
characterizations in Takahashi's manga - but I'd like to know why yours are
correct and mine are bizarre. I (and others) have provided references to
support our claims; I'd like to see you do the same.
