Ah, the things I learned in SCA 101... ^_^

(For those of you who don't know, the Society for Creative Anachronism
is a group of social misfits that do medieval re-creation. Visit
http://www.sca.org for more information.)

We were very carefully schooled (read, someone did their best to
remember the juicy bits and pass them on) in the necessities of living in
the Current Middle Ages. One of the things we learned was to beware
of the dreaded Period Police.

The Period Police are very disturbed folk who seem to enjoy yelling and
shouting at other people, and generally making them feel uncomfortable,
whenever they do something that the Period Police consider in the least
bit out of "period" -- anachronistic to the middle ages. These Period
Police are not an organized group as such, but they do seem to pop up
more often in the less civilized reaches of the Knowne World. 'Tis a sad
sight to see an up-and-coming SCAdian ruined by this dreaded malaise.

The Period Police should not be confused with honest and forthright
SCAdians who notice that something seems amiss, and quietly notify
the responsible parties.

The best response to a pestering Period Police is to quietly and
privately respond, "That's nice dear, but you have no idea what the hell
you're talking about," and then cheerfully ignore them.

The same goes for trolls under the bridge. ^_^
