Oct 1925 - Tunguska, Siberia
Commodore Fuyutsuki Kohzoh looked out on
his small contingent of soldiers. The band of
thirty men were dressed in gray winter coats,
leading the horses and pack mules over the broken,
terrain of eastern Siberia.
Fuyutsuki looked out at the wasteland his
duty had brought him to. No living thing moved on
the face of the earth. All the trees had been laid
flat as if by the hands of God. Sergeant Ikari
Gendou caught his attention with a wave of his
hand. His shout was barely audible over the wind.
"The blast pattern is collapsing! We should be at
the epicenter in less than two miles."
"Good. How are our supplies holding out?"
"We still have more than half of what we set out
with. Do we anticipate a slow or fast return to
Manchuria?"
Fuyutsuki reached the top of rise they
were climbing and stopped. He called Ikari to his
side and pointed at the valley below.
"Slow."

Chapter 1
The Discovery

The monolith was over two stories tall,
or at least the part visible above ground reached
that height. Orange ghostfire crawled over the
black metal surface. Rings rotated around its
circumference with a low humming noise. Fuyutsuki
called to his men.
"Begin building the sledges! When you have pulled
it from the crater, put in the meteorite!"
One of the men gave him a questioning
look. Ikari answered the unspoken question.
"Others will come looking for what we have found;
and when they find what they expect they will stop
looking."
On a distant mountain side two strange
figures watched the proceedings. Two girls,
dressed in robes much too open for the cold,
stared down upon the men below. Both were pale of
face and hair. They wore strange jewelry,
reminiscent of armor. One turned to the other
and their red eyes made contact.
"And so it begins."
