I suppose I shall throw my two cents into this argument before the
omnipotent Tybalt decides to ban it.

If I had to respond to every self-insertion fic in this list I would
probably be banned for flooding the ML with flames (even though I never
flame, I just critique). I will now critique every self-insertion fic
ever made and all self-insertion fics yet to be made.

Not possible, as others have said you have just generalized the
entire genre. Not to mention Anime and big time published stories in
general, but I will get to that in a moment.

I will never understand the mentality behind self-insertion fics. They
have no purpose. They have no dramatic value. They are not entertaining,
except, one assuages, for the writer.

I will try to keep this as uninsulting as possible so as not to
incur the wrath of Big Brother Tybalt so...

I will never understand people's incesent dislike of them. First
off any story, no matter how good, has a bit of the author in them.
And in quite a few, quite possibly most, the main character is in
fact a big reflection of the author. His avatar in the story if you
will. And that's just the stories that have been animated and
published. Don't believe me? El-Hazard-Makoto is without a doubt
the most transparent excuse for a self-insertion character that I
have seen. Perfect, powerful in his own way, has dozens of girls
chasing him, intelligent, inovative---you see where I'm going with
this? How about Tenchi-Our friendly neighboorhood clueless Hero here
has dozens of girls chasing him, two of which (I staunchly refuse to
say three) are goddesses. GODDESSES MAN! And not just any goddesses
if what 101 says is cannon, Two of the beginning ones. If that's not
just a bit Self insert I don't know what is. Keiichi Morisato is
another is example. Here is another example: Tom Clancy has a
character that appears in all his books (I forget his name right off
hand); that is more than likely his avatar in these books. There are
many other examples of this, and I could go on and on, but I would
take up way too much of my time with this answer.

Now, I -do- understand that people like to talk about themselves--this
is also a childish impulse that people grow out of (the cappuccino

You obviously don't work on computers. Or work on anything for that
matter. People talk to themselves all the time, even answer
themselves. Perhaps you should start, it is a great thinking tool.

silver-spoon carried-through-life adults are the exception). All
self-insertion fics are the products of minds that are (still) immature.

To be honest I hope I never grow up. Grown ups are boring, stupid,
egotistical, SOB's who have got a stick ramed so far up their
backsides that it's a wonder they can talk right. True grown ups
cannot have fun, and hurt people because they no not how to show any
of the positive emotions. Ask Washuu (the red head mad
scientist/goddess variety) all about that one. She's got a great
story for ya on that topic.

You must have a very sad and unloved life. I pity you.

I apologize to all offended parties, but I call them as I see them.

I'm not offended, just saddened that there are people like you out
there. I pity you guys truly I do.
