I may be wrong on this, but the way I interpretted it the child was
an abomination in Kunou's mind.  Not a child at all, but a demon
summoned by the sorcerer Saotome to entrap Osage no onna.  That, in my
opinion, is a _very_ believable reaction coming from Kunou's deluded and
demented mind, and the way he acted toward the child follows suit.  I
feel that Kunou is just as in character in this fic as he is in most
fics I've seen him in (and more in character than a few others I've
seen).  This is one of the better portrayals I've seen of him.
