Nowadays more and more authors are writing to please others, which is
contrary to the very spirit of fanfiction. A fic should be written for
oneself and no one else. 

With my fics, I think to myself "Okay Peter, what can I do to break some new
ice?" and I come up with ideas like The Curse of Evagelion, Ranma's Oddssey
or one thought I may do later on, Improfiction, a takeoff of Impromanga.
I'll talk about that some other day.

An author appreciates what others have to say
about it, good or bad, but overall, the only thing that matters is what
they themselves think about it. 

Hence the fact that I'll defend my stories like I got caught stealing from
my parents.

While you may like/dislike these categories there
are always the "diamonds in the rough".

His telling of
Akane and Ranma's not so happy marriage, while angsty and depressing as
it progressed, was one of the best works I've ever read, to date. In any
category.

Once again I bring up Ranma2096, a well done darkfic series, no wait, universe.
Chris Willmore and other writers went out and created this world where
almost every Ranma char has died, commited suicide, be killed, gone insane,
created a religion, came back as ghosts, or lives a life of hell. Many
people I mentioned it to said that they hate it or that it sounds horrible,
and the CoU (Cult of Ukyou) has even banned it for the events. But me, I
LOVE it! The dark and gritty escape from the usually wacky world just gives
me the sheer satifaction that things don't have to turn out okay in the end.

I admit that yes, there are some stupid self insertions out there, but
that's also opinion. What someone thinks "sucks" for lack of a better
term, someone else may think is pure genius.

Among the ones that truly are bad would be pretty much anything by Oscar or
Gonterman, those who are fimiliar with Shinji's vault of MSTings know what I
mean.

I myself, will most likely never write a self insertion jsut because I don't
think I can do it. I wouldn't solve anyone's problems, sure as heck won't
get any chicks, and I'm a retired green belt so I don't think I can do jack
sh*t against any char that I'd fight with.

In other words, I'd only be able to do a *realistic* insertion.

Therefore, I won't do one.

Though the thoughts of a SM insertion fic keep creeping on me...
