Ryoga cathes up to Ranma before he and his father get cursed. They 

fight

on top of the cliff, which gives way beneth them. They fall together
into the spring of drowned girl. Only one red haired girl emerges.

There is absolutely no reason to believe the springs have this effect. 
All that would happen in that scenario is to produce a cursed Ranma and 
a cursed Ryouga.

And they'd soon realize the 'benifits' of two guys being able to change 
into girls--can we say endless nights?...OUCH! Sorry, that was my nurse 
giving me the cattle prod. Must learn to control those impulses!
