Mmm... Now we're sounding like Battletech.  As for flying mechs, that
isn't going to work.  You'd need a hellish amount of lift to get
something
that heavy in the air...  The key problem with regeneration is: Where
the hell is the matter coming from?  Unless you've got one of those 
nifty Startrek Energy to Matter thingamajigs...

There's only three ways I've seen regeneration done well.

1) Omnipotence or non-physical body.

2) Just a really fast healing factor. Its not like its a spontaneous
matter generator when cells divide or your hair grows or a cut closes.
This is just stepped up a bit.

3) Tien from DBZ who has the mysterious ability to regenerate arms.
