Oh, must we? What happens to us if we don't, oh pray tell Mr.
Supergenius Guy? Will we be ticketed by the fanfiction police?

Personally, I try to keep most of my own fics as close to the canon as I
can. I prefer to read fics like this, too -- all else being equal. But
that's my choice, and others have a right to differ. To say that anyone
"must" write in a certain way is just ridiculous.
