You confuse "true" with "convenient". There is nothing simple about

Takahashi never set down a complete set of laws governing the magic
of Jyusenkyou. She never said that certain things were *not* in the
nature of the springs, just as she never said certain things *are* in
their nature. Therefore, it is largely open to fan speculation as to
the complete nature of the Jyusenkyou magic. 

The theory that the cursed form will stay 16 forever is debunked in

the 

manga, in specific the Mushroom of Years arc; Ranma's and Ryouga's 
cursed and uncursed forms suffered the same age-altering effects of

the 

mushrooms.

You know...this was a very weak example to pick to prove your point.
You should have used the fact that onna-Ranma's breasts grow later in
the series to support this argument.

Whether it be the properties of the curse, the power of the ki 
techniques, a question of speed, strength, endurance, etc, the good

fanfic writer should go no further than what is directly

represented in 

the manga, and, when there is no material to go by, the writer then

must 

strive to conform as closely as possible to the 'spirit' of the

manga -- 

that is, he must take what is in the material in the SIMPLEST, MOST

OBVIOUS LIGHT POSSIBLE, and make a new continuity, which must not

only 

not disagree with canon, but must exist as the simplest, most

obvious 

and logical extension of the same.

Oh, the good fanfic writer must, must he? 

My god...I must be a terrible fanfic writer, then, given that I've
written Onna: Red Side. After all, nothing from Magic Knight Rayearth
appears in the Ranma manga. Ranma certainly never turns out to be
possessed by the spirit of the drowned girl in the manga. Nobody
travels to Cephiro in the Ranma manga, or learns magic. 

Oops...Ryouga isn't possessed by the pig's soul either. There's no
strange relationship between Ranma and Ryouga, and Ranma never truly
thinks of himself as a girl of his own free will. I guess that means
I'm even worse for having written Onna: Yellow Side and Her. 

And yet, I wonder why it is that these horrid, dreadful fanfics I
write, since I must be *such* a *POOR* writer, by *your* incomparable
standards, have gained such fan popularity?

Could it be, maybe, because people *like* reading fanfics that vary
from the source material?

Oh, I guess not. You said that no *good* fanfic writer strays from
the source material. Silly me.

I guess that myself and everyone else who likes my fics must be
idiots then.
