This Asuka would not be particularly appealing.  The Das Reich, like all
Waffen SS divisions, was also involved in war crimes, although not to the
extent of the Einsatzgruppen.  Although most notorious for the atrocities
at Tulle and Oradour in France, the Das Reich also participated in
atrocities on the Eastern Front including the murder of nearly 1000 Jews
near Minsk in 1941.  

I decide to make them the Axis to keep the overall dark tone. Like I said I
don't know if I'll work on this. If I do, it won't see the FFML for a long
time.

 "dark" is an understatement.  However, doesn't it also remove most of
whatever sympathy we may have for most of the characters?
