Nearly 1,000 years have passed since the rise, and fall,
of the city known as Crystal Tokyo, and its monarchy,
Neo-Queen Serenity, King Endymion, and their daughter,
Princess Serenity, once known as Chibi-usa. The reason
behind the fall remains a mystery to the general populace,
but this missing piece of history is not a priority to them
at the moment; the once-proud city is in such chaos that
the current government has declared a state of emergency.
A woman claiming to be the daughter of the late Princess
Serenity suddenly makes her appearance, promising to lead
Tokyo back to it's golden age. The people, willing to believe
almost anything at this point, put their lives in her hands.
Meanwhile, another young woman claiming to be related
to the royal family begins her search for those she thought
would never again reappear... the original Sailor Senshi...
* *
"We are commencing our final approach to Tokyo
International Airport. Please fasten your seatbelts, and
prepare for landing..."
As the pilot's voice droned on, the woman sitting
nearest to the cockpit shifted uncomfortably. Several
nearby passengers glanced at her, curious. She had
been sitting in the same position for the past five hours,
black hood drawn over her face. Now, as she pulled
the restrictive jacket and hood away from her, they leaned
in to get a good look.
Her hair was an unusual reddish brown, parts of
it mixed with tinges of crimson, while other strands
just blended in docilely, a normal mahogany color.
The entire mess had been piled neatly on her head,
that is, at one time it had been neat. Now wisps stuck
out here and there, the bun looking fragile enough to
collapse at any moment.
The woman reached up a hand, trying to smooth
at least some of the hair back into place, and turned her
head, almost as if she could sense the stares. Several
people looked away, embarrassed at being caught, but
others just stared harder, amazed at the beauty of her
face. The lips had a soft look, seductive, although at
the moment they were marred by the scowl she had
twisted them into. Her eyes were the most captivating,
however. A purple so light they could only be called
lavender, devoid of emotion and at the same time filled
with it.
She squinted suddenly, focusing on the nearest
passenger. "What the hell are you staring at?"
<Um.. I don't speak Japanese.> He laughed nervously,
averting his eyes from hers.
"Argh! Gaijin no Baka.." she muttered, turning away.
<What did she say?> the man whispered to his
companion.
<She said you're a very nice-looking foreign man..>
the companion answered calmly.
--
"Excuse me?!" Aisu Misamitsu's face held the expression
of one trying not to provoke a psychopath. To say he was wary
would be an understatement.
"I apologize." The woman sighed, and pulled her coat tightly
around her, hiding any glimpse of the odd looking dress underneath.
She looked at him, almost pleading. "I know you don't remember me,
Ami, but--"
"Would you stop calling me Ami?" he snapped. "Didn't we
already determine what my name is? It's Aisu! Aisu Masamitsu!
I'm a guy, in case you couldn't tell!"
He paused, and stepped back, smiling nervously. "Ah.. you
don't have a.. weapon under that coat, do you?"
She blinked, looking surprise. "Of course not, Am-- Aisu."
"Good, good.." He smiled at her, patronizingly. Cautiously,
he sidled over to the table and snatched up his computer. "Now,
Miss... what was your name again?"
"It's.. Luna." She smiled somewhat bitterly. "That's what I
used to be called." She reached up her hand and peeled off the
bandage, exposing the small moon.
Aisu blinked. "Interesting tattoo."
"It's not a tattoo." She took a step towards him, reaching
out a hand. He flinched slightly, but didn't move. Luna's fingertips
brushed over his own forehead, tracing out a figure that only she
could see. "It's a birthmark, symbolizing my place in the Silver
Millenium. I was considered a member of the Royal Family." She
looked wistful.
"The what?" he asked, looking confused. After a few minutes
of what looked like hard thought, he continued, brightening, "Wait..
Silver Millenium? We studied this in my magical theorem and history
class..." He paused again, and gave her a penetrating look. "YOUR
place in the... are you in your right mind, lady?! That was.. thousands
of years ago!"
Luna grasped his arm, searching his eyes. "If I was able to, I'd
reawaken your memories right now. Unfortunately, after what happened
in Crystal Tokyo..." She dropped the arm, the memory of pain still fresh
in her mind.
Aisu was looking slightly ill. "Look, Miss.. Luna, if that's even your
real name. Obviously, you need to make your way back to whatever
facility you broke out of..."
"I don't know how to convince you, Aisu, I--" she stopped, considering.
Luna's hand went inside the front of her dress, and she pulled out a
necklace. Hanging from the silver chain was a small sliver of a gem, oddly
alive and glowing in the palm of her hand.
"What is it?" he questioned, wondering where she had stolen it from.
The necklace itself looked priceless, and the gem...
"It's the Ginzuishou," she said quietly. "A shard of the Ginzuishou,"
she corrected herself quickly.
Aisu raised an eyebrow. Luna stared at him. The expression had
reminded her of someone... had reminded her of Ami.
"And what," he asked slowly, "is a ginzuishou?"
--
The sleek, black jet touched down on the battered
runway with ease, only giving the passengers within the slightest
jostle.
When the jet had come to almost a complete halt, the pilot
pushed a button on the intercom, and said in a monotonous voice,
"Please gather up your belongings, and do not push or shove your
way to the exit. Thank you for flying Onmyouji Airway-- urk!"
The passengers all smiled and nodded to one another,
their attitudes seeming to completely change as they readied
to make a dash for exit.
Only the young lavender eyed woman noticed they had once
again begin to pick up speed. And she, also, was the only one who
had noticed the large, balding man with the gun tucked under his arm
making his way to the cockpit.
"Minna no Baka," she muttered. "Didn't any of you see.." She trailed
off, and glared daggers at the tiny man who had suddenly latched on to her
leg. "You ugly little troll! Can't you see we've been HIJACKED!"
The passengers began laughing nervously. "That's a good one, Miss!
Ohoho!"
The woman picked up the little man and hurled him at the one who
had spoken. She then turned on her heel, and made for the cockpit.
A burly man stood over the slumped figure of the pilot, his gun
clenched tightly in his hands. The co-pilot was hunched up in the
corner, shivering. Seeing the young woman, his face twisted with
a horrified expression.
She ignored him, and tapped the large man on the shoulder. "Excuse
me, sir..."
"Eh?" He turned around, annoyed, and realizing that someone had
discovered him, he brought his gun to bear, hand already on the trigger.
Unfortunately, the woman was already in the process of kneeing him
in the groin, and he stumbled backwards. A sharp 'snick!' hissed through
the air, and the woman struck out with her arm. The large man banged his
head on the wall as a trickle of blood oozed down his cheek.
The woman held up the knife she held in her hand, and smiled.
The man, still determined that this nuisance would easily be taken care
of, but now entirely too light-headed and too feathery inside to do anything
worthwhile about it, threw himself clumsily in her direction. She sidestepped
his pass, and kicked his knee. As he topped over, she smashed the
backpack she had been carrying over his head. The man ceased to stir.
"A beautiful angel.." the co-pilot muttered, awe filling his eyes.
She turned to him with a cold stare. "That's right, imbecile. The
name's Maidel Isuhiro... angel of death. For hire." She smirked. "Next
time I have to do something like this.. I better get paid." The smirk
twisted into a scowl as she slung the backpack over her shoulder.
She pushed her way back into the main area, the small outline
of a crescent moon slowly dying away on her forehead.
The passengers who had been watching the show finally realized
what had been going on... and fainted.
--
Luna looked at Aisu carefully. "The Ginzuishou is a powerful
jewel, once used by Queen Serenity of the Silver Millenium. She
sent her child and court into the future to be reincarnated as
humans with it... And even this small piece," she hugged it to her,
"has helped me in my quest to find the Senshi."
"The Senshi?" Aisu suddenly looked interested. "The Sailor
Senshi? As in, the same ones that Ms. Tsukino was talking about
at the conference?"
" 'Ms.Tsukino..' " Luna sighed bitterly, and sat down in the chair
Aisu had just been ready to make himself comfortable in.
He frowned, somewhat annoyed, but too eager to hear what
Luna had to say to care. He knelt down beside her, looking at
her intently. "So.. "
"The Ginzuishou led me here," she said quietly. "To you,
the reincarnated Sailormercury, once known as Mizuno Ami."
"..." He nearly fell over with that statement, then began
laughing hysterically. "H-hey.. you've gotta be kidding."
When Luna said nothing, he turned pale. "But.. the
Senshi were all female... I'm not female!" he said indignantly.
Luna was about to respond, when suddenly, from
somewhere behind them, a voice spoke. Luna froze
like a deer, or perhaps a cat, caught in the headlights
of an oncoming car.
"Put your damn hands up, and nobody gets hurt.."
--
The situation had finally been brought under control, all
thanks to the "angel" Maidel. When the passengers were finally
able to file off the jet, Maidel was first in line, not wanting to hear
them voice their thanks. A few of them were being a little too
friendly for her tastes.. especially that disgusting midget who
kept latching onto her legs. She had finally gotten tired of
him, and had tied him to one of the wings of the plane. Maidel
had heard the next flight was to a piece of land that had been
nearly destroyed, and completely abandoned some years ago.
It was called "Jusenkyo".. or something like that.
Maidel had continued on to the main airport, but hung back,
letting everyone else go in before her.
'Look like a freakin' dump,' she though, scowling. Her eyes
flicked over the large cracks which had been hastily covered
up with paint. Black colored lichen and other unseen terrors
lurked just within the cracks, some of it spilling along the walls.
The hole in the window had been corrected by yellowish gauze,
the glass itself an odd mix of brown and red dirt.
Maidel wasn't really surprised. The last time she had seen
Tokyo, Rea Jokichi had reigned surpreme. In the process of
being a "wonderful" ruler, he had nearly destroyed the city with
a failed attempt at launching a magically engineered bio-weapon.
After that, the technology, and finances, that had been powering
Tokyo since Serenity's demise, had disappeared along with Rea.
'Never thought I'd return here.' She shrugged off the thoughts
as a small smirk touched her lips. '...Hope the youmas are still
around. Made quite a living off of them in Neo-Europe...'
"Isuhiro-san?" a voice said briskly from behind her, interrupting
her train of thought.
Maidel frowned, and gave the young man a cool once over.
"Not bad. Sachiko knows how to pick her man servants.."
He cleared his throat, looking flustered. "There's a car waiting
for you in the parking lot..."
"Really?" she replied dryly. "I was dragged halfway around
the world, and Tsukino doesn't even have the courtesy to meet me
at the airport? Rude little twit, isn't she..."
"P-please!" The man was looking slightly peeved, and Maidel
suppressed another smirk. "You have no right to talk about Ms.
Tsukino that way..."
"Is that so? Was it not "Ms. Tsukino" who invited me here, to
ask for my help?" At his hesitant nod, she continued smugly, "Then
I can talk about her any way I damn well please.
"Now, be a good bishounen and tell me where Sachiko has
arranged for us to meet..." Maidel began walking in the direction
of the parking lot as she said this, and the man hurried to catch up.
He frowned, panting a little as he tried to match the taller woman's
stride. "My name is Masaaki Yasutaro, Miss. My driver will take us
to Ms. Tsukino's penthouse, a thirty minute drive from this location.
First, however, we will be picking up a member of the press... She is
eager to interview you."
Maidel sighed. "I'm so happy you decided to bring along a vulture
without asking my permission first." She gave him a cross look.
"Gomen nasai. She was very insistent, and Ms. Tsukino
was finally forced to agree."
Finally reaching the lot, Yasutaro gestured to on of the sleeker,
more expensive looking cars, and Maidel made a sound somewhere
between a snort and a whistle.
"My.. you still use these around here? How.. primitive. I must
admit, though, it's a fine piece of work..."
A tall man standing next to the car, obviously the driver, bowed
formally. He quickly opened Yasutaro's door as the other man
wondered briefly what exactly Maidel had been referring to...
Maidel glared at the driver before he could come over to her side.
She opened the back herself, and slid inside, slamming the door
behind her.
The car was slowly eased out of the parking space, and Maidel
idly stared out the window as they began to pick up speed. Yasutaro
was silent in the front, his hands folded primly in his lap.
It had reached full nightfall by the time they pulled up to the
small, abandoned looking building. The driver got out, and Yasutaro
followed, not bothering to let the man open up the door for him.
Maidel just leaned back lazily, her eyes following Yasutaro's
backside. They only had to wait a minute or two, as the door
suddenly creaked open. A woman emerged, carrying a briefcase
and looking business-like.
Maidel's breath caught in her throat. "Rei..." She wasn't
certain where the name had come from, but suddenly she was
out of the car, lavender eyes blazing.
"Masami, you IDIOT! What are you--"
"It's good to see you too, Maidel."

Next: Chapter Two ... Secrets and Lies
Notes:
Perhaps you can tell, but this chapter didn't work
that well for me... anyway, the last part was
written as an afterthought, and as a result was
not pre-read.. so any spelling/grammar mistakes
are entirely my fault. ^_^;
Oh yeah, and did anyone notice the corny anime refs
(besides you, oh observant Jade-chan ;)?
I was watching Ranma 1/2 while I was writing this, so... ^_-;
As always, C&C, MSTs, and flames are
welcomed. This is rather short again, but...
seems some people like it that way. :)
Part2 won't be out for a few weeks, while I focus
on getting "Death with Dignity" and "Forgotten Future,
Forbidden Past" out and revised (Erin.. gomen! ^_^;).
And, of course, I still haven't forgotten the
untitled-Eilis&jacinth-prologue.. ;)
Well, I'm off to write more mail... oh joy. ;)
t t f n... :)
