Hi all. I hope everyone is having (had?) a great summer. Nope, I'm
haven't re-subbed yet, but I need the collective FFML's help. I'm trying
(TRYING, meaning having attempting but having little or no success) to
write a fic. Heh. I think it's a result of the thread Lurker,
TimeRunner, and I were throwing back and forth for a few days just before
I left. Anyway, I'm trying to write this fic, and I've got a few
questions I'd like answered PRIVATELY. I'm not really sure it's even
okay for me to be posting non-fic material since I'm not subbed to the
list <peers around looking for Tybalt>, but I'm going to cross my fingers
and hope this goes through.
1. I've spent the past month and a half jotting down ideas regarding the
fic, attempting to outline it, etc. I think I've basically done all I
can w/o actually starting to write the fic itself. Where do I go from
here? Should I write the story in a chronological fashion, or just start
writing anything that comes to mind?
2. What's your thoughts on me realeasing it when it's completed, or
posting each chapter as I finish it?
3. Does the length of the fic matter? It seems like this story is going
to be fairly long, perhaps similar in length to ... actually, I have no
idea what it would be similar in length to, but I'm planning on it being
fairly long (ten chapters, 5+ pages per chapter). Is it better to write
a short fic my first time out?
4. How useful are prereaders? Other than helping with the grammar
and/or spelling, what else do you authors feel prereaders have
contributed to your respective fics?
I know a few of these questions might seen to have obvious answers, and I
agree. But I'm looking for something I haven't thought of -- a new and
less frustrated perspective. I'm really unsure of how to proceed now
that I have a general sense of what I want my fic to be about. Also, I'd
like everyone to remember I'm NOWHERE near finishing this puppy. I have
doubts if I ever will, but I figure as long as I'm trying at the moment,
I minus as well do everything I can to move this along.
I'd like to thank everyone in advance for their PRIVATE replies.
Unfortunately, I only have access to my computer during the weekend, so I
have no way of checking my mail during the week. Also, having access
only 2 out of 7 days a week really restricts the amount of time I have to
reply to various emails. Essentially, that means that I'll try to reply
if I can, but no promises. So, with that said, I hope people still
decide to reply.
A more routine (at least for me) request follows:
I'm psyching myself up to read Warhammer's NOVELS, "The Legacy of the
Teknos", but before I do, I have a few questions. And before you guys
ask me this, yes, I've written Warhammer's sister but I've gotten no
response, and I already tried reading the Prism section on Warhammer's
page, but I didn't really understand it.
(I'm not sure my questions and the info I include in it are spoilers, but
just in case...)

1. How much of Teknos do I need to know? All I really remember about
the series is that this Slade guy was a former bad guy, he has some
pretty kewl powers when he transforms into this robot using his crystal,
and ... Darkon is attacking Earth. What else? Umm, his whole family is
part of the bad guys, his brother is a really powerful bad guy, his
sister (who wears a pink armor?) tried to save Slade but died in the
attempt?, and ... Slade's crystal broke. (Again, sorry for the
fragmented thoughts). Now, the only way he can use his powers is to jump
into this really big robot and transform inside. Umm, there's this other
girl who's a member of the Earth's defense force, she helps to pilot this
ship, and she likes Slade. Also, what's a Lahdam pod? Is that the pod
that turns the good guys into bad guys (hehe, I know it's a simplistic
question, sorry).
2. What other series do I need to know about? I know who Nodoka, Ranma,
Akane, Chad, Molly, and Nuku Nuku are, but that's about it. Other than
Ranma, Sailor Moon, Nuku Nuku, and Teknoman, do I need to know about any
other series?
3. Is there an order I should be reading the various fics? I'm
basically just going to be starting from the top of Warhammer's page and
working my way down.
4. Is everything completed? I have this pet peeve about reading fics
that aren't completed. Usually it's because the author never writes fast
enough for my liking, but OTOH, I do understand how hard it is to produce
something of good quality in a short period of time.
Okay, I think that's it. If all this is too hard to explain, I GUESS I
could go and try to find some info on Teknoman from various other sites,
but I'd rather get my answers from someone who's already read the fic.
Hope you guys and gals get around to answering my questions. Again,
private replies only, and THANKS for taking the time to read this. Ja,
minna-san!
