Of course real-life transsexuals are beside the point.  Akane and Nodoka
both might very well decide that Ranma must "learn how to be a girl" 
regardless of whether it's healthy or it makes sense.

Nodoka, maybe.  However, Nodoka _does_ want his son to be manly.  Akane,
I'd doubt it.  She's not really that concerned about Ranma's gender
physically (only to the point that she's engaged to him) or psychologically.

However, Nick did write the fanfic saying that Akane forced Ranma to behave
more like a girl.
