I'm not sure about what is the custom of mistresses in Japan, but I can figure
out this question.  Kuno is an idiot!

Seriously, I don't really think that Tatewaki has really thought this out.  He
only thinks of strengh of will, and that if he only pursues the objects of his
desires long enough, they will eventually see the errors of their ways and
give in to his superior being (or so he thinks.)

In the US, this kind of pursuit usually results in a restraining order and a
stalking conviction.

Not sure of any help, but I wanted to chime in.
