Shopping districts are bacically all located in
one particular street in a district. The street
whatever its name is always referred to as a
Ginza. The street has an archway on both ends
and is usually closed to traffic.

The Ginza is lined with boutiques, green grocers,
electronic stores, small restaurants, beer gardens
and the like. Most of these are Mom&Pop operations, 
though most boutiques tend to be part of chain of
such stores.

Also, a lot Ginza have streets branching of them
where the local love hotels are located.

Big malls are not that common in Japan. The resistance
to these comes from Mom&Pop stores in Japan. After the
war these kinds of stores were basically encouraged
and apart from some pre-war department stores the
government basically kept it that way.

I recently read a news article somewhere of an
American mall developer's woes in setting up his
supermalls in Japan. The national and city goevernments
were encouraging him, but were dragging their feet
with the zoning laws, plus the local Mom&Pop stores
were putting up a lot of resistance. Also, a lot
of the small store owners were supporters of the LDP,
so they were basically kowtowing to them.

2)What are Hiroshi and Daisuke's last names? If Takahashi-sama ever gave
them any?

Never referred to by name in the manga AFAIK. The
names were created when it was made to an anime
and not last names were created for them again AFAIK.
So you make up your own.
