Subject: [FFML] [spam] Status Distort

Gawd, I wanted to avoid one of these...I can already see the lynch
mobs forming...but I need feedback on something, so I decided I might
as well bite the bullet and update everyone on my status.

For the last two weeks, I've been suffering from a severe case of
burnout. All the ideas, plots, character development, everything good
about my fics, is still fresh in my head. It still buzzes around up
there like a fairy without a worm to play with. But I have a problem.

The words just aren't there. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem
to write anything even remotely approaching my usual quality. I'm
blanking out.

So, I decided to take a sabbatical from my fics. This won't be an
ongoing situation...possibly just until the late summer, or until the
burnout effects wear away. In the meantime, however...

Around the time that I began to realize I was suffering from burnout,
a certain curiosity of mine reared its ugly head, and became a
full-blown fascination. I've always had a certain taste for
tokusatsu/sentai (y'know...the *real* versions of the Power Rangers,
Ultraman, Kamen Rider, stuff like that), and over the last couple
weeks, I've been researching and working to acquire some raw video of
such series as Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger, Ultraseven, etc.

This has, predictably, bred more than a couple interesting fanfic
ideas, as well as producing one very surprising and unexpected
result: it planted the seeds which are rapidly blossoming into my
first concept for a professional writing attempt. Some of the folks
on KawaiiMUCK already know about this, but I'm trying to keep the
details pretty tightly wrapped up (to cover my own ass, natch)...

But I still need a bit of practice, especially with writing effective
prose variants of tokusatsu (which is a bitch to do), before I get
down to hard work on my new project. I've got a couple of *new*
fanfic ideas which meld anime and tokusatsu, BUT...I also have
*another* idea which, I think, will be far more pleasing to those
among you who actually read my stuff.

As many of you recall, chapters 23 and 24 of Onna: Red Side featured
the group from Nerima basically becoming Cephiro's answer to the
Power Rangers. And as I've stated, they will not appear again in the
main story until act six.

HOWEVER...

Considering I've already gone to the trouble to create weapons and
mecha for them, as well as costumes, I had a crazy notion.

Now, I *could* create a completely new fic, melding Ranma 1/2 with a
Super Sentai-style series (I already abandoned an idea involving
sentai Sailormoon), OR, I could write a side-story to Onna: Red Side,
detailing the adventures of the fledgling sentai squad in Cephiro, as
they become more accustomed to their mecha. The story would involve
the introduction of a new villain, operating independently from (and
coincidentally interfering *with*) Lady Mirage, and would fill in a
big gap in the story.

The benefits of doing this: I can work in a lot of character
development that I would otherwise have to cram into the last half of
Onna: Red Side, when there's already going to be entirely too much
stuff happening, and explain the way the Nerima gang act when the
Magic Knights return to Cephiro after retrieving the Mashin at Mt.
Phoenix.

I may also revise chapters 23 and 24 of Onna: Red Side to compensate
for any changes that come about as a result of this sidestory.

I know I'll probably get at least 20 responses yelling at me to hurry
the hell up with the next chapters of Suiseiki, O:RS, and
Lord-knows-what-else (gee, aren't I egotistical?), but the fact is,
that's not likely to happen anytime soon. The best I can do is give
my readers the next-best thing...an O:RS sidestory, as described
above.

No on-list responses, please, but I would like to know what everyone
thinks of this idea.

[notices the omniscient Tybalt hovering nearby with the tempban hook]
Okay okay, I'm shutting up now...
