OF ALL THE THINGS

The wind gently flowed into the night as the moon softly looked down at
the city of Nerima. Silence spread through the whole township, its quiet
presence so different when it was daylight. Slowly, lights turned off one
by one, the moon and the stars shedding their light.

Two people walked on the pavement, each one occasionally stealing a quick
glance to the other.

Ranma felt butterflies in his stomach, thinking of his gift for Akane.
Yet, when he saw how disappointed she was when the gifts were given and his
name wasn't on a single gift, he felt his heart break. *I should've given
her something-something she can keep...Akane, I hope you don't think I'm a
fool when you see what my gift is...*
"So how'd you like your party, Akane?" Ranma asked, trying to get her in a
conversation.

Akane turned to him and smiled weakly, "Well, my 17th birthday would
surely be memorable, having about let's see, four fights in one night, a
panty-stealing master, the Kunous laughing their heads off and um, what
else? Oh yeah, I won't forget the 'surprise' wedding for the two of us.
Other than that, it was a great party."

Ranma looked guilty, knowing that those four fights were definitely caused
by him and his 'fiances'.

Akane saw his guilty face and said, "No really, Ranma, I thought it was a
great party, I did. I was just joking..." she smiled, she just wanted him
to sweat a little.
*Serves him right, * she thought, *I don't know if I should feel bad that
he didn't give me a gift or anything. Even a card is enough or at least a
simple 'Happy Birthday, Akane! I love you!'* She smiled, *Well maybe the
last part is too much to ask right now...*

They came upon the fountain in the park and Akane gazed at the beautiful
sight they were seeing. A statue of an angel stood in the center with her
wings embracing her heavenly body. Her longing gaze extended into the
darkness of the night above her as water flowed out of her lips. The moon
cast a soft glow over them as Akane continued to walk, with thoughts
flooding her mind.

Her thoughts were broken when Ranma gently took her hand, saying, "C'mon,
Akane..."

Akane didn't know what to do and was wondering what Ranma was up to. Then
he stood up on the fountain's ledge...

Akane stared at him...

He was wearing his white sleeveless shirt. The fountain's water flowing
behind him and the moon's beautiful presence hovering over them made her
blush...what caught her attention was his sweet smile and the sparkle in
his eyes as he looked down at her.

Ranma took a deep breath, *Well, here goes nothing...*

"Akane, I wanted to give you something special. At first I figured flowers
would be great, but I didn't want to give you something that wilts and
dies...I wanted to give you something that's gonna last forever...something
you're gonna look back on and say, 'Ranma did this for me...' "

Akane still wondered what he was planning to do, but when his mouth opened
and words came out of his mouth in a sweet, soft melody, she felt her heart
melt, especially when she knew the song he was singing...

"Of all the things I've ever done, finding you wold prove to be the most
important one. I would never trade the tears, the conversation no one
hears, the learning how to walk before we run..." Ranma smiled, feeling
more confident when he saw Akane smiling up at him, her eyes close to
tears.
"Of all the kites I ever flew, most came tumbling down except the one I
sent up with you...I don't want to change a thing, break the spell or cut
the string. When every wish I make is coming true with you..."

Akane couldn't help the tears that came down her face as Ranma sweetly
sung to him. She could feel her pulse racing as he offered his hand and
gently pulled her up on the ledge and holding both of her hands, still
singing as the moon shone on them...

"Sometimes I forget to say how much I love you," he put his hand to his
chest and continued, "Purposely I'll bet, 'coz I'm so busy thinking of
you..."
His hands once again covered hers, his heart beating in his chest as he
continued, "So in this world of odds and ends, I'd rather have a part of
you than all of my so-called friends..."

Akane squeezed his hands gently and smiled, gazing up at his blue-gray
eyes, filled with moonlight and sparkle...

"You have taught me how to feel, what is false and what is real...Of all
the things I ever wanna do, I think I'll start and end with loving
you...You have taught me how to feel, what is false and what is real..."

Akane's mouth opened to speak, but Ranma put his finger on her lips and
touched her cheek, whispering softly, "Of all the things I ever wanna do, I
think I'll start and end...with loving you..."

Silence passed between them as Ranma's voice slowly faded away with the
wind...

Akane held his face with both hands and made him stare into her eyes,
"Ranma...thank you..."

"Akane..." he whispered, as he held her close, feeling her soft hands on
his face.

And as the wind and the stars swirled around them, they slowly danced
amidst the flowing fountain, hearing music only the two of them can hear...

- end

Author's Notes:

Hi! Well, I hoped you liked this one. It's kinda a songfic but at the same
time a WAFFy fic, I honestly don't know ^_^ Well, this fic was based on the
song, "Of All the Things" by Dennis Lambert. It's a very sweet song, and
you'd probably see more fics like this from me because I usually base my
short stories on songs. I think you'd enjoy the story more if you knew the
song, but still, I hope everyone liked this. It's kinda in draft form, so
if you see any mistakes, sorry 'bout it and please just mail me, Thanks!!!
^_^
I like the idea of Ranma singing to Akane, I think it's really sweet and
rare for a guy to sing to a girl. [ahhh...where have all the sweet guys
gone? Just joking ^_^ ]
And for those waiting for Beyond Forms 2, it's posted on my page, as well
as a new fanfic of mine, The Thin Line Between Love and Friendship, I hope
you visit the page and read 'em. Thanks ^_^
