SPAM: What is spam? ANYTHING that isn't a fanfic (face it, you know this 
is true). Anything that threads for more than three days. Anything that 
Tybalt says should go private or believes nobody else needs to hear (FAN 
MISCONCEPTIONS). 

Many things aren't spam and aren't fanfics. C&C, for instance. I'd love to
see more C&C on the list. Discussions of fanfics. Certain types of writing
discussions.

Some things are spam, and don't get banned. This is because I am tolerant
and benevolent. No, really. Stop laughing.

Some things are spamthreads, and get banned because they're annoying,
massive, and rehash old subjects. Sometimes I cut them off before they
reach that point.

What is a character debate? Whether such-and-such a character is
this-and-that, better than so-and-so, blah blah blah.

  Fine. Fan-misconception-dispelling qualifies as spam. Add THAT to the 
FAQ; it surely needs updating by now (whoever it is who's supposed to 
maintain it). 

'Fan-misconception-dispelling' usually means 'my side of a character
debate, because I'm right and he/she is wrong'. And even if it isn't - if
Takahashi-sensei descends from heaven in panel 57 vol 24 to support your
view - well, that's what God invented private email for. Or work it into
your C&C, lord knows that's easy enough.

Yes, I ban threads that the participants are interested in. Too bad. At
last count, the list has 900+ members. Most of them are on here for the
fanfics. Many of them have limited mailbox space. If you want a
character/fan dispell/whatever forum, may I humbly point you to RAAF and
the Ranma mailing list. The FFML is for anime fanfiction, and discussion
of said fanfiction. Not discussion of anime.
