  It could be argued that "dialed" and "smiled" can be pronouned as one
syllable words and the use of a partial word "won-" is in the spirit of the
challenge, but "never", "himself", and "modest" are definitely two syllable
words.   Points for using "fain". Archaic, but suitable.
