Hey all. Just a lurker finely coming into the light. This story is my first
fic so i would appreciate any help or advice that comes my way. It's just a
story that popped into my head and i actually wrote it. I know The Mighty
Damamamon will not regret this. Well i hope you all enjoy it. On with the
show.

Welcome to the ever-popular disclaimer. This is the part where I tell you
that I did not come up with Ranma 1/2 nor the X-Files and they belong to Ms.
Takahashi and Mr. Carter respectively and the companies that produce them . I
am not making any money off of this and you won't make any money if you sue
me. I'm a poor Roamin just adding my two cents worth. That is all.

First there was darkness
A Rise of the Roamin Empire production
                  By Damamamon

Prologue

 "Hindsight is fifty-fifty."
 	Saying overheard in Roam

"A very tragic accident occurred in the Nerima area tonight. A large
explosion near Furinken High School has claimed the life of one of the
community's top martial artists. Details are sketchy but it appears that no
one else has died, but many were injured. More details at 10."
Channel Five Newsbreak seen on TV

Seven years ago Nerima, Japan

First there is darkness. Then I see them. The Tendou Family standing around
the dead body of they're father. There is nothing but silence. Then, the
Quiet stillness is broken by the sounds of sobbing. It's Kasumi. She is
sitting there holding the lifeless body of Soun Tendo. The pain is written on
her face. All she can do is cry.
"Ranma you will pay for this."
I look over to Nabiki and I tremble. Her voice was so cold and lifeless and
her face had no expression. She looked like a robot or something; Her voice
chilled me to my bones and put a hint of fear into me.
"Oh yes, he will pay. Ranma I hate you."
I looked over at Akane and see her battle aura blazing all around her. She
walks over and gets into my face. Now I was really scared.
"Ranma ever since you just walked into all our lives you have been nothing but
trouble. You have ruined my family and my life in more ways than one.
Because of you all of our lives have constantly been put into danger. And now
you have let my father die."
Akane keeps poking me in the chest to emphasize each sentence. This was
getting worse with each passing second.
"You are always so high and mighty, you never even consider that somebody
might get hurt. How in all that time nobody died is a miracle, but your luck
has changed and now you are going to pay."
Akane was Furious. I really couldn't blame her. I had screwed up royally
even pops had disowned me. This time I think he really meant it.
"One way or another you always come out on top don't you Ranma. Well guess
what its over. Everything. Our engagement, our love, your life."
With that said Akane pulled out her mallet. I want to run, to get away, but
I can't move. I try to tell her anything, something to ease the pain. My
mouth is locked shut though. Why won't my mouth move? I think that it is
because I had finally failed her in every way.
"Ranma I never want to see you again."
With tears running down her face she swung with all of her might and energy.
The mallet surrounded in her fiery battle aura seemed to be moving in slow
motion, but I didn't matter I couldn't move to dodge it to save my life.
Literally. Then it connects. The pain is tremendous. I have never felt any
type of pain so intense before. I feel my feet lift off the ground. Then I
scream.

Chapter 1

Hello... Horses..?
Excerpt from a popular commercial in Roam

"I have a rookie coming in tomorrow. She is another finished top of her
class kind of person. Agent Reiko is an excellent profiler and she love's
martial arts. From the looks of her dossier she could be one of our best
agents to date. I have full confidence in her and I believe that she will be
able to contain and help control my biggest headache. If nothing else she
should at least be able to keep up with him.
From the personal journal of the Chief

6:00am present day

"Aaaarrrgghhh." I wake up terrified. My body covered in sweat. I wonder
why my dreams are filled with nothing but nightmares. If it's not about cats
it's about the last time I saw Akane. God I'm pathetic. One of the best
martial artists in the world and I wake most mornings screaming in terror.
The one time I have failed. God how I hate to think about that moment. To
remember it in such vivid detail. This is definitely a bad omen. Unfortunately
I have to keep on living. There is no yesterday or tomorrow only today, and if
I don't get moving I will be late for work. I scramble around getting ready.
I take a nice hot shower and shave and then get dressed. I dash out the door
and get to my car in record speed and then I'm off to the office. I make it
to work with good five minutes to spare. Today might not be so bad after all.

"Good morning Special Investigator Saotome. How are you today." Asks Ryu
the front door guard. "Your early today. The things that go bump in the
night didn't keep you from getting your beauty sleep I see."
"Screw you Ryu. I'm not in the mood for you or your wise ass remarks."
"Then maybe this will cheer you up the chief wants to see you after lunch.
He didn't sound to happy either."
"Oh great just when I thought my day was shaping up. Thanks for nothing
Ryu."
"Anytime Saotome, anything to help out a friend, even a crazy one like you."
Ryu added as I was walking off to the elevators.

Ryu is a decent guy but he has a real weird sense of humor. Unfortunately
just like almost everybody else here he thinks I'm a nutcase. Nobody really
understands what I've been through. They all think I chase after legends and
fantasies that I have created in my head. That I make things up to make it
seem more mystical. Demons and ghosts can't exist. This is the Twentieth
century where logic reigns; there is no time for silly superstitions. I wish
they were right. For the stuff that I have seen would make most of them
collapse in fear. As I walk into the elevator I hear a woman yell to me.
		"Wait. Hold the door please."
I stop the elevator door from closing and she walks in. She is in her early
twenties and is and is too cute for her own good. I want to introduce myself
but I never get the chance. I hear the elevator chime and she say's "This is
my floor see you later." And then walks out. A smile appears on my face as I
get off on the nineteenth floor and make my way to my office.

I walk into my office that is still as bare and drab as ever. There is only
my desk, a chair, and a few items scattered about. The naban mirror, my
degree and my old bracers. I don't; know why I kept that stupid mirror. It
never did do anything but cause me a lot of grief. I even almost used it
once, but I didn't want to take the chance of screwing things up even worse.
It's kind of funny, in a way; my life ended right along with Soun's. I still
go through the motions but there is little joy left. How unlived in my office
looks is just another thing that makes people think that I'm a little
unhinged. And of course what I usually end up investigating doesn't help
either. Each case is always just a little strange sometimes even downright
weird and terrifying. I reach over and pull out my latest case from the
filling cabinet marked the X-Files.

On the floor right above Ranma's office, The young woman that was in the
elevator is patiently awaiting the Chief in his outer office. She has shoulder
length brown hair and pretty blue eyes. She is dressed in a conservative dark
blue business suit that accents her curves nicely. A little to the left is a
desk with a receptionist who is busily working at her computer. She looks to
be in her mid thirties and has a severe look about her. Just then the
intercom goes off and the chief speaks. "Mrs. Watanabe please send in Agent
Reiko."
"Yes sir. Agent Reiko the Chief will see you now."
		"Thank you Mrs. Watanabe."

Agent Reiko strides gracefully into the chiefs office. Immediately Agent
Reiko is stunned by the sure lavishness of his office. Along three of the
walls are fishtanks filled with exotic saltwater fish. The fourth wall is
nothing but a huge window overlooking Tokyo. There are decorations and medals
hanging everywhere, and in the center of the room is a beautifully sculpted
desk with a middle-aged man in standing behind it. This man is the Chief. He
is a mountain of a man standing at about six foot four and with two hundred
and forty pounds of pure intimidation. With his shaved black hair and scars
on his face and hands you can tell he paid his dues to the force

"Come in Agent Reiko I have been waiting to meet you. I must say that your
file is most impressive. I am glad that you have been assigned to our
division."
"Agent Nanami Reiko reporting for duty. I have heard nothing but good things
of this division and I can't wait to get to work."
"I like your attitude Agent Reiko you will fit in perfectly here. I see
that you graduated top of your class with honors. You are obviously very
intelligent and have your feet firmly planted on the ground. That is why I
have picked you for a very special assignment.
"Thank you sir. " replied Agent Reiko slightly blushing at the unexpected
praise.
"Don't thank me yet. This assignment will be tough. You see we have an
agent, a wild horse you could say, who needs to be tamed to be a team player.
He has gone through 4 different partners in the three years he has been here.
A lot of weird accidents have either forced them to ask for a transfer, a new
partner, or quit, and none of them seem willing to go into details about what
happened. The one that we got the most information from just babbled on about
a demon, cursed water, and women's unmentionables. We want a responsible agent
to be teamed up with him to find out what's really going on. For none of his
reports seem believable."
"So what happened to that poor guy." Asked Reiko in a shocked voice.
"He committed suicide. All the others..."
"If you are trying to scare me its not going to work because it basically
sounds like your trying to get me to baby-sit the local nutcase." Interrupted
Reiko Angrily. "This is not why I joined the bureau. I want to solve crimes
and make a difference to society. I want to make Japan a safer place to live.
Not go around with some basket case making sure he doesn't get drool all over
his suit."
"Settle Down agent Reiko if its action you want, don't worry you are getting
partnered with the right guy for that. Trouble follows him around like nothing
I've ever seen before. You just need to point him in the right direction and
keep the property damage down. And I would also like you to report back to me
on him regularly. Even though he has worked for us for three years now he is
still a mystery with many secrets that he won't tell. We would like to know
just what makes him tick. Your high marks in psychology should help out with
that too. I must warn you he can be a little crude and brash. He doesn't
have much in the way of manners and can be quite a jerk. His excuse is that a
wild animal raised him, and from the way he acts sometimes it wouldn't
surprise me if it were true. Don't be fooled into thinking that he is dumb
either, or he will make you appear to be a fool. Look at it as doing a
psychological profile. It won't be easy. Many others have tried all have
failed.
"So it's a challenge then. Well I accept. This will be a piece of cake so
when do I meet...whats his name."
"Ranma Saotome. As to when you will meet him I would say about anytime
now." The chief replied with a sigh. And that's when the door burst open.

8:00am Japan Bueruo of Investigations

Ranma was bored. He couldn't concentrate on his work.. That new girl he saw
in the elevator was dominating his thoughts. He wondered what she was her job
assignment was going to be. "I sure hope they don't make her my partner.
That is the last thing I need is to be protecting somebody else from my life.
She sure was cute though" Ranma sighed as his thoughts drifted elsewhere.
"Why does the chief want to talk to me. I haven't done anything for a while.
I hope they're still not upset about my car that got trashed by that crazy
monkey king. What kind of a name is the Monkey King anyways. He wasn't even
a monkey. Stuff like that is what makes me look like an idiot. Besides it
really wasn't my fault that he decided he needed to take over Tokyo from the
restaurant that I was at.. He also trashed 14 other cars. So clearly it
wasn't my fault that it was destroyed. God that guy was weak all he had going
for him was surprise. Hmmm three hours till my meeting with the chief, I
think I might as well just go now and get it over with."

So Ranma proceeded up to the chiefs office at a nice leisurely pace. He
stopped off at the candy machine and purchased a snack for him and the chief
and went on his way again. He casually strolled into the waiting area of the
chief's office when was stopped by the ice-cold stare of Mrs. Wantanabe.
"Just where do you think your going special agent Saotome" Asked Mrs.
Wantanabe Icily.
"The Chief wants to see me. I'm expected." Answered Ranma
"Not for another three hours your not so you will take a seat and wait
patiently. He is in a meeting right now" Rebuked Mrs. Wantanabe.
"No I think the chief will understand. Have a nice day Mrs. Watanabe."

With that said, Ranma walked right past the miffed receptionist and barged
into the chief's office.
"Anytime now." Replied the chief with a sigh.
"Hey chief you wanted to see me. I brought you a snack.
Ranma casually flips the candy bar towards his superior and then sees agent
Reiko who is sitting wide-eyed in shock of somebody just walking into a
commander's office.
		"Hope I'm not interrupting anything."
"No Ranma as a matter of fact we were just talking about you. Ranma I would
like you to meet your new partner agent Nanami Reiko." Said the Chief with a
chuckle.
"WHAT. I thought we had already decided I work alone I don't need no girl
hanging around me trying to get a date or slow me down." Why cant I think
just once before opening my big mouth thinks Ranma as he gets the feeling that
this meeting is only going to go down hill from here.
"Why you pompous jerk. Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I will slow
you down and I especially don't want to date with you."
With that said Agent Reiko went to slap Ranma. Her hand locked on and
heading right on target, but astonishing enough, only managed to connect with
thin air. "What!" she exclaimed. Unfortunately for Agent Reiko Ranma was
right behind her and feeling a little bit playful.
"Boo" Ranma shouted at the top of his lungs
Agent Reiko Screamed and did a spinning Jump kick that surprised Ranma
enough that he only had time to block. His liking for Agent Reiko had just
gone up a notch.
Agent Reiko was surprised, how the hell did he get behind her and the there
was no way in the world that he should have been able to block that kick. What
the hell is that guy made of anyways, her ankle was pounding from the force of
the block.
"Hmm. You're not to bad but your way to slow." That's not what I wanted to
say thought Ranma, lets see if I can try to fix this. "Well I guess if we are
going to be partners we might as well get to know each other. Why don't you
let me take you out to lunch? It will be my treat. Oh yeah let me introduce
myself. I'm Ranma Saotome. Sorry about this"
Agent Reiko was confused. She had taken down lots of people with that move.
There was no way in the world he should have had time to block. Then again he
was fast enough to get behind her in a split second. It is not physically
possible for a person to move that fast. This was getting strange and I just
met the guy. This just might get interesting. "Okay, apology accepted but I
get to pick the restaurant."
As Agents Reiko and Saotome leave the office, the Chief just sighs and says,
"I don't think that this is such a good idea." To the impeccably dressed man
sitting in the corner chair unconsciously playing with a yo-yo. "You worry to
much this will only be the beginning." The yo-yo man says crypticly.

Well hoped you enjoyed it and i will try to get the next part as soon as
possible. With a little encouragement it will probably be out faster. Well
untill next time.
