	You forgot to mention the fact that in the manga Akane could make 
a good tasting curry and was improving in general by the end.
	Besides the argument of Ryouga being the only one willing to give 
her up for the sake of her happiness ignores the Shinosuke storyline 
where Ranma did much the same.  And there's Akari who demonstrates that 
Ryouga will obsess over ANY girl who acts nice to him.

	All in all, I see this fict as requiring two assumptions to work. 
 1, the assumption that Ranma and Akane's marrage will be a horrible 
experience for both of them.
and 2, that both of them will therefore remenis about no longer available 
alternatives as being extremely more perfect than they were.
