After doing a little investigation, I discovered that the site this photo
came from is a _pay_ sex site, specifically one devoted to S&M/B&D. (If you
don't know what those terms are, don't ask. You don't want to know.)

No surprise there.

Clicking on the link Happi included in his little missive takes you to a
page that offers to sign you up for this service, and trying to get OUT of
it is difficult, as they've set up portions of the page to just open up NEW
pages when you try to close the original one.

I've seen a few hacker pages using porn links this
way to generate money; it's usually the wannabe
"warez doodz" who have nothing to offer.

I've also seen other spam/porn tricks, like mail
that contains a <META> tag so that it automatically
goes to a porn URL when you try to read it.

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this idiot made some bucks by
doing this.

The term "clickthrough farmers" was used in the May
1998 issue of WiReD's Jargon Watch for people who
have porn links and get paid a few cents for each
click on them by visitors.

WWolf is right. Soon as I close this letter, I'm going to use the ticket
number that he gave us, and complain LOUDLY and OFTEN to the admins at Yahoo
mail. I *STRONGLY* suggest we ALL take a moment and do the same. Several
_hundred_ letters pouring into their mail abuse center about this fool will
help get him banned for life, and possibly encourage Yahoo to spread the word
about him to other free mail services.

Unfortunately, Yahoo is very much like other free
mail service providers, slow to respond to
complaints and does not do enough to filter out
people who sign up for accounts. (I've made a
complaint about a spammer there before, and the
account wasn't removed for two weeks.) Still,
a mass-mail campaign could make them smarten up.

Perhaps. But I have 7 little nieces and nephews, courtesy of my two younger
sisters, Tina Marie and Harvette Danielle. Occasionally, they visit me. If
I'd thoughtlessly opened that letter while they'd been here...

It's like my brother, he stupidly forgot to turn
off his screen saver before he took it into the
store to get his computer repaired: it's the Lose95
SS that you type text into and have the words fly
around the screen in 3D. He hs the word "f***"
spinning around. 9_9

Let's just say I'm temped to treat THIS Happosai in much the same way
Takahashi-sama's little pervert is often treated.

I'd rather see the phony Haposai castrated, that
way he loses his desire to spam porn. ^_^

One thing I did suggest to the FFML admins that
one liked the idea of and may do (no, Admins, I'm
not trying to be pushy! ^_^) was to have the FFML
bot not process any message without a valid tag
in the subject, such as [fanfic], [idea], or
whatever the tags would be. Spammers would tend
to not bother using tags or reading the FAQ, so
their messages would not reach users like you or
I. I would bet most spammers would be too lazy to
learn the protocols.

Lastly, sorry this sounds like a criticism of you,
EB, but in your post you're not differentiating
between the names of the real Happosai who is a
victim here, and the phony Happosai0, the perp.
Someone might not notice the difference and flame
him. (Excuse the accusation that carries.)

Forgive my blathering, but we are all on the same
side of this, right? ^_^
