 Novel by British author William Golding, 1911-1993, Nobel Prize in
Literature 1983.  It was his first novel and wasn't published until he was
43.  It is an examination of the barbarism that lurks beneath the veneer of
civilization and the struggle between order and chaos.  It was rejected by
21 publishers before Faber and Faber accepted it.  So cheer up, budding
authors.  Even good authors get rejected.
