Ok,
This basically goes to all the authors on Geocities, and maybe what
archives are on it also.
I have a simple solution: find another web provider. Fortunecity gives
10megs for free, same basic policies as Geocities. I gave my space to Chris
Davies' Together Again because of the growing space for it. This gives all
the authors and archives more space to strech as well as no popups or that
annoying little geocities thing that follows your cursor as you scroll.
Simple, yet very effective. Thank you for your time, etc, etc, etc, etc
For those who don't want to move, or simply find it too much of a bother,
there's another solution.
There is now a freeware program that interfaces with both Netscape and
Internet Explorer. It kills popup windows at Geocities and Tripod!
Here's a bit of description from the place I found it at.. sorry about the
used car salesman tone it takes, but then, I didn't write it.
I've been using this proggy for a while, and I like it. The only flaw I've
spotted is that on occasion, a Tripod popup window will confuse it, and it
will close the popup, and the browser, both. I understand it's been upgraded
since I downloaded it.
Close Popup -- W95
If you've ever landed on a Tripod or GeoCities site and been annoyed by
those popup advertisements, be annoyed no longer. Our friends at Take A
Hike Software have produced a tiny utility which automatically closes those
annoying popup windows. Every time a window appears, Close Popup zaps it.
If ever there was an 'essential utility' this is it! You can even set it up
so that it doesn't even put an icon in the desktray -- just use the switch
"-no" when it loads. We have it set up with the 'no' switch and have it
running from the Startup menu so it is always there but not "in our faces".
Even if it's hidden (ie there's no icon in the desktray) you can always
remove this program by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, selecting 'Close Popup', and
then clicking on 'End Task', but who'd want to??? As a nice bonus, Close
Popup is only a 6kB download. Go grab your copy of this essential Web
utility from:
http://www.completelyfreesoftware.com/internet_related_w95.html#ClosePopup32
or

There you go.. check it out for yourself. WWolf? Tybalt? I know this is
spam, but so many of us have fic pages on geocities and tripod, and those
popups are SO damned annoying, I felt this qualifies as a public service.
Hope it helps.
