We bothered to install GeoGuide.

A small ad banner at the top of the page, usually linked to another
GeoCities page and cycling randomly, with a few graphic links to
other GeoCities features. No script, just images.

The problem is, a lot of people are too lazy or careless to install
the GeoGuide. It takes less than five minutes, and eliminates the
popup ad windows.

So instead of bashing GeoCities for having the popup ads, bash the
people who don't have the GeoGuide on their pages. It's their fault.

Someone's already mentioned this, but it bears mentioning again.  Simply
change this:
</Html>
to
</Html><noscript>

That's it.  No other changes.  No installation Geoguide.  Completely
painless.
