First, let me say I have an unreasonable pro-Ukyo bias (part of it may
be because it's so easy to identify with her.... no, we won't get into
that; then I'd have to explain my unreasonable pro-Kunos biases as well
;). On to battle....

Ucchan's been my best friend, hell, my only friend for a long time.

The Ukyo/Ranma best friendship is a fanfiction myth. Even the most
rabid
Ukyo fanboys can't come up with a single example from the series where
Akane wouldn't listen to Ranma and Ukyo did.

Bah, friends that listen is called 'intimate friendship' (of course,
if I'm using the wrong term, you are free to hurt/correct me). Ranma and
Akane are far and away more intimate in their relationship than Ranma
and Ukyo (I don't ever recall a time where Ranma would 'talk' with Ukyo
as with Akane), but Ranma and Ukyo understand each other better than
Ranma and Akane (Ukyo likes Ranma the way he is, Ranma likes Ukyo the
way she is, but Akane doesn't like Ranma the way he is, and Ranma
doesn't like the way Akane is). Yes, I think there IS a difference
between 'best friend' and 'intimate friend.'
Heck, in "My Best Friend's Wedding" (from what I know of it) the two
leads are best friends, but don't share their dark secrets as you seem
to imply that comes with best-friendship; I mean, Julia Robert's
character couldn't work up the courage to admit her love until the
wedding day. (crap, this sounds like Ukyo already, and I didn't like the
movie all that much)
IMO, a 'best friend' is someone that knows you enough that you don't
have to explain yourself to them all the time. (like the (un)pleasant
in-jokes, etc.; yes, my definition of 'best friend' is rather broad.)
It's the kind of relationship where you could bash each other back and
forth and still not care because you know your friend (and your friend
you) well enough. I suppose that's why I'm responding to you statement;
I DO consider Ranma and Ukyo best friends. (soon I'll hear accusations
of fitting the definition to my purposes <ducks for cover>)

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, but I was compelled to
respond. Perhaps your own definition of 'best friend' may be in order so
I may understand where you're coming from.
