When Usagi woke up, she found Rei sitting at the foot of her bed. This
surprised her somewhat, so she asked what her friend was doing there..
"Well," said Rei, "I have something to tell you."
Usagi sat up and tugged at the covers. Rei looked quiet and subdued,
and gave Usagi a sad, compassionate glance that upset Usagi far more
than any bitchy comments she might have made.
"What's wrong, Rei-chan?"
Rei sighed. "Well, for starters, I'm not Rei Hino."
"Huh?"
"My name is Marimi Tanaka. I'm an actress."
"Where's the real Rei?"
"There's isn't any real Rei. Rei Hino and Sailor Mars don't exist.
There's just some holographic special effects and me."
"You're lying," Usagi said uncertainly.
"None of this is real. You're not really a princess, you don't have any
magical powers, and all those youma were special effects and puppetry.
It's not even the twentieth century." Rei stood up and walked over to
the window, pulling the curtain open. Sunlight poured in and streamed
across the floor. She looked back at Usagi. "Turn off the sun,
please," she said loudly.
The sun vanished, and the sky became dark and starless.
"NO!" screamed Usagi, jumping out of her bed. She caught her foot on
the blanket and tumbled to the ground. "ETERNAL MOON POWER! she cried,
struggling free of the blanket.
Nothing happened. Rei... Marimi... looked pained.
"Your whole life is just a television show. Your friends and enemies
are actors, your powers are special effects, and your neighborhood is a
giant set. And now the show's been cancelled, and it's time to tell you
the truth."
And... my Mamo-chan?"
Marimi took a deep breath. "There's no easy way to say this. Your
Mamo-chan is married to the actress who played Sailor Aluminum Siren. I
think that's how she got the part, actually."
Usagi shook her head. "No. My Mamo-chan loves me. I don't believe
you."
Marimi nodded. "Maybe it'll help if you meet everyone." She pushed on
the wall and it slid open. Usagi followed her into it and down a
stainless steel staircase. It opened into a large room ringed with
computer displays and control panels and featuring a huge TV screen on
one wall, showing her bedroom. In the room was... everyone.
Jadeite was there, and Catsy, and Eudial, and Galaxia. The Starlights,
both male and female, the inner and outer senshi -- all of Usagi's
friends, enemies, and family were gathered in that room waiting for
her. They burst into applause.
Usagi sought out Mamoru. He looked defiant, and slipped a possessive
arm around an uncomfortable-looking Aluminum Siren. Usagi spun around
and ran sobbing back up the stairs. She flung herself on the bed, and
the giant screen's high-definition picture and surround sound carried
her weeping until Mimete managed to shut it off.
