Quincy has this annoying habit of building on the ruins of previous
projects. Literally. If the foundation was still there, he'd simply have it
cleaned up and rebuilding would progress apace. Building inspectors?
Dishonest ones would go home rich. The occasional honest one might go home
with a bad case of dead-ness. ^_^ And if the chamber has been built by
Mason, that means it would be VERY well hidden, which in turn means it's
very likely DEEP underground. Particle beams are nice weapons, but they
don't give great soil penetration. Anything more than 100 feet underground
stands a very high chance of surviving intact. Trust me. This was what I
_did_, when I was still active military. I can show you radiation
pentration charts, but I expect they're already available on the net
somewhere, and it would be a boring waste of bandwidth for the list. A
quick example? 12 feet of just plain soil (144 inches) will reduce the
power of simple gamma radiation by a factor of 1,000,000. Sounds
impossible, doesn't it. But true.
You know, someday one of us is going to unearth what you were REALLY doing
when you were active military, and then the government wll be forced to kill
either you or half the list. ^_-
But about the Tower... soil penetration would have nothing to do with Genom
Chicago. Why would the foundation have had soil in it? It would have been just
plain old steel and concrete, like any other foundation in the world. The
particle beam would have ripped through it no problem.
Plus, even if it hadn't, you've got untold megatons of fried Genom Tower
collapsing in on itself. The foundation would have been completely crushed and
destroyed. If the unit hadn't been destroyed then, it probably would have been
unearthed or destroyed in the rebuilding process, and not until they were
specificallly looking for it.

No? The original survived a direct blast from one of the particle beam
satellites. Admittedly, he looked like hand-hammered shit afterwards (See
BGCrash!), but he did survive, and that was with NO protection and no
warning. The Joker may be nuttier than an Akane-made fruitcake, but he DOES
plan ahead. He had _some_ sort of shelter available. We just don't know
what it was.
He had protection. Largo was a VERY well made HyperBoomer. His armor is quite
incredible.
Plus, there is no WAY that beam was at anything even remtely resembling full
power. Keep in mind that when he shot it, he was aiming for the Knight Sabers,
not himself. He wouldn't have wanted collateral damage that would damage him
(Largo was many things, but not suicidal), so he likely used just enough juice
to obliterate them and not much more. Nothing like the tower-shattering blasts
he was shooting earlier.
Also, there is a big difference between weathering a single beam strike (and
bullet to the head) and living through an explosion and the resulting collapse
of a large building.

Picky, picky. <grin>
Yes I am. I've been waiting nearly a YEAR for this sucker (this and TPOH) and
if Rod's finally doing it, I'm going to be there every step of the way
hounding him with advice.
Be afraid, Rod. Be very afraid. AAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!

Joker is bright, even brilliant, but like almost all super-villains, he
tends to leap to conclusions. As do we all. ^_^
That's why things like the Evil Overlord list exist. ^_^
Nice C&C, Mercutio. Rod's been working on this fic for a while, and he's
been polishing it til it SHINES. Hell, he's even spent valuable time
listening to MY half-assed comments.
Well, yeah. You're older, wiser, and more experienced than practically anybody
else on the list. Anybody who doesn't listen to YOU is a moron.
