	I'm back.
So, you ask, why was I gone?
Well, Saturday night, we had a big storm here in Minneapolis (be
thankful you were at A-Kon, Richard.) One of my storm windows blew out,
and I went outside to try and fix it in the rain. I was seen by a woman,
but took no notice of this. I failed to replace the window, but secured
the pane and went inside to sleep, as it was nearly midnight.
About twenty minutes later, I was wakened by knocking on my
door. Getting partially dressed, I was annoyed to see it was the
police. This turned to fear when the woman in the hall with them said
"he's the one." Still muzzy, I asked what the problem was, as I didn't
recognize the woman, and couldn't imagine what I'd done to offend her.
The cops asked if I lived in this apartment, and I said "yes".
The woman stated that the landlady had told her my apartment was
legally empty, and she had not seen me before in the three months she'd
been living next door. In fact, she was supposed to be part of a crew
cleaning out the apartment in the coming week!
This was news to me, as you can well imagine. (And yes, I had
not met my neighbor of three months before, due to our schedules.) The
police asked if I had keys, which I did, but it took me a while to find
them. I also pointed out that I had been living in the apartment for
nearly a decade, and the police hadn't bothered even to get out of their
squad car when *I* reported a robbery.
Eventually, the neighbor admitted she might have been mistaken,
and the police left.
Worried though, I made sure to get a rent payment in right away
with a note pointing out that I was indeed still there.
Monday, the neighbor talked to the landlady and learned that
she'd misheard the number of the empty apartment, so all was reasonably
well, and she apologized for the mistake...

Sorry, Tybalt, but I needed to get that off my chest.

SKJAM!
